Saturday I was feeling exceptionally motivated. In addition to laundry, bathroom mirrors and running errands I headed outdoors to tend a garden bed. And what was my enthusiastic spirit met with? A sliver!
I never knew that last-season decorative grass could insert itself so deeply into a finger until this past weekend. [Fudge!]
Needless to say, I walked myself inside and abandoned the project all together along with any other plans to clean or be productive. After several attempts to remove said sliver, I was left with no other alternative than to cut my finger off or allow the wound to fester. And fester it did. Luckily after 48 hours of enduring a red irritated finger tip, the sliver self-evacuated. I have a nail clippers and a slight infection to thank for the quick departure.
I don't tell you this so you have proof I'm a weakling. I tell you this because sometimes we get thrown off course. Slivers happen. So do bruised egos and changed plans. These things can be uncomfortable and make us want to give up. And I'm here to say, "I get it". But unlike the sliver, you don't have to fester or wait an unknown period of time to get over the small stuff. You have the power to decide how to respond. You can remain irritated. You can let your mind and spirit become infected. Or you can simply choose to 'tweeze' the situation and move on.
Life never guarantees an easy mode. The only way to be sliver-free is to legit never get out of bed. And if you're reading this it's because you're either gainfully employed, an active community member or my aunt on the west coast! [Hi, Aunt K!]. Either way you are not staying in bed. You are bounding up and down the mountain of life and getting bumped and bruised along the way. So, if you're standing on the mountaintop, enjoy the view. If you're trudging through the valley, bring tweezers.
