Highlights of Our Life and Work
May 22, 2020

Here are the Friday highlights of our life and work at Peninsula United Church. During these times of physical distancing, we want to be intentional about staying connected, so watch for our MID-WEEK UPLIFT email on Wednesdays as well. We are not alone...

Sunday Worship Online
This week we will reflect together on the final port ion of Jesus' long goodbye found in John 17: 1-11  and listen in as Jesus prays for his disciples before he leaves them. Bring a Bible when you gather for worship. Or you may prefer to download a copy of the scripture so you can make notes and underline those words and phrases that are most alive for you.

Our hymns this week are: "Come and Fill our Hearts" MV 12,  "Like a Rock" MV 92,  "All Creatures of Our God and King" VU 217, and "Sent Out in Jesus' Name" MV 212

Hearts on Fire With Love
Help us prepare to celebrate Pentecost!
Instead of flowers we want to decorate the heart in the driveway at the Crescent site with red and orange ribbons, preferably rain resistant. If you wish, write a prayer on your ribbon. Come by the church and tie your ribbon to the heart frame.

As you worship with us next Sunday, May 31 wear Red for the Fiery Spirit  of Pentecost.
Eat Birthday Cake on Pentecost Sunday
Long ago, before Covid 19 changed everything, we had planned to have a Birthday Bash after church.  We would have gathered  at 12 tables according to the month of our birth.  We can't gather to celebrate but we can still eat cake and celebrate the energizing Spirit who prepares us to share God's love in the world.

We'd love to have photos of yourself and your piece of cake as you celebrate Pentecost.
Send them to the office
and we will post them in early June.
Your Generous Gifts are More Important than Ever
As we know, God's work is never done. Our ministries continue during the week, over months and years. It is immeasurable and powerful how it touches people even when we don't see them face to face.
We deeply appreciate your continuing, faithful gifts at this time.

Finance Team Message:
As we move through these challenging times we find our local givings between January and April 2020 totalled $85,073.72. Our local offerings are slightly down compared to the same period in 2019 ($92,012.15). By the end of April 2020 we have used $38,886.35 of the budgeted $120,000 from Planned Gifts to help cover annual church expenses. Mission and Service donations totalled $23,739 by the end of April. Thank you for your continued financial support of our ministry.
Respectfully submitted: Finance Team

A Bouquet of Appreciation for the worship feedback from last week's Coffee Chat participants.
You will notice some changes in this week's worship video in how the hymn words are displayed.  We hope it helps with your worship experience. It makes the editing much easier for Denice.

Here's How Peninsula United Church is Sharing God's Love With the Community:
Good News!
For 6 weeks (Mar 31- May 13) sandwiches donated by the Food Bank and Save on Food cards were offered to our homeless neighbours. We usually met with about 6 folks and gradually the numbers decreased as government funding allowed some to finally find housing, food and hospital care was provided to one very ill person. Now Peace Portal Alliance Church is offering nightly Shelter and food until the end of June for those who remain homeless. Thanks be to God for these blessings.

News from Naramata Centre
A number of folks have been asking about what is happening at Naramata Centre during this pandemic. Currently, we, the Board and Management, have yet to make a decision about summer programs and/or summer accommodation. We are meeting by zoom this Saturday and another major zoom meeting in June to go over some financial projections and to look at options for the summer and fall.

All of the spring programs had to be cancelled, so we are hoping to at least partially open during the summer. If we are not able to open this summer, it will have a significant effect on our financial future, however there are still a number of options available, and our managing director Susan Smith has been amazing at applying for and receiving Covid related grants.

Please keep the board, staff and the Centre in your prayers over the next weeks and months.
