A prayer during times of COVID-19
by the Right Rev. Richard Bott, originally posted on Facebook.
Moderator Bott encourages the sharing of prayers he posts throughout his term.

In this time of COVID-19, we pray:
When we aren't sure, God,
help us be calm;
when information comes
from all sides, correct and not,
help us to discern;
when fear makes it hard to breathe,
and anxiety seems to be the order of the day,
slow us down, God;
help us to reach out with our hearts,
when we can't touch with our hands;
help us to be socially connected,
when we have to be socially distant;
help us to love as perfectly as we can,
knowing that "perfect love casts out all fear."

For the doctors, we pray,
for the nurses, we pray,
for the technicians and the janitors and the
aides and the caregivers, we pray,
for the researchers and theorists,
the epidemiologists and investigators,
for those who are sick,
and those who are grieving, we pray,
for all who are affected,
all around the world...
we pray
for safety,
for health,
for wholeness.

May we feed the hungry,
give drink to the thirsty,
clothe the naked and house those without homes;
may we walk with those who feel they are alone,
and may we do all that we can to heal
the sick-
in spite of the epidemic,
in spite of the fear.

Help us, O God,
that we might help each other.

In the love of the Creator,
in the name of the Healer,
in the life of the Holy Spirit that is in all and with all,
we pray.

May it be so.
Please send us stories of people connected to our congregation who are working on the front lines so we can recognize, thank and pray for them.

Please ask the person/s you know if we can recognize them and pray for them.  See if they will let us post their photo and say something about their contribution to caring for others
.

This week we want to recognize and thank:

Anna Regan who works at Surrey Memorial Hospital ICU as an ICU nurse.

Please share your Prayers of the People for worship
We would like to include your concerns in the Prayers of the People in our online service when we record it on Thursday afternoons. Please send prayers to Rev. Janice: janice@peninsulaunited.com.

News from Tierra Nueva:

Here is some more correspondence between Cheryl Lightowlers and Wendy and José in Tierra Nueva.

Please continue to keep the Tierra Nueva community in your prayers.

Letter sent by Cheryl - April 26, 2020

Happy Monday!
Hope you and our Fundahmer families are well.
Wendy, you mentioned helping the Tierra Nueva families who did not receive government assistance.
We have money that was given to me to bring in March for vitamins.
Now there may be more pressing needs.
When would you want some money?
We would use the bankIng info we have for transfers.
The colouring pages are given to us to go along with the theme for our virtual church services. The hearts I coloured bring to you our thought and prayers.
Cuídate mucho
Cheryl

Response received from Wendy & Jose - April 27, 2020

Dear Cheryl,

Thank you so much for your drawings, they are so cute. I love them!

I really love the idea of at one exact hour, lot of people to make noise or clap to your medical workers! For sure they're the real heroes now, fighting in first row, with this pandemic and all of you see the big challenge they're facing.

You have planted lot of vegetables! Great idea for eating healthier because you know how they were raised, not with all the pesticides the big farms use. Not all people in El Salvador have the idea of having a vegetable plot in each house. It's more common to see it outside the city.

Regarding your question of the money for helping the families of Tierra Nueva, we'll be very glad to receive it as soon as you can send it. For sure it could be better for this week or next one in order to help them as soon as possible. Let us know, once you can do it.

The idea we have is to deliver them small baskets with food but not the one they have already because of their crops, as corn or beans, they have enough for some months. Instead, we want to give them a basket with other type of food they can save and use them later. Depending how much money we have available, the cost of each food basket will be of $30 o $35 USD. Of course, once we have all the details, we'll share them with you!

Sadly, today we knew from Ana Luz, that Joel Umaña Chávez, Ana María Hernández's (Apiary beneficiary) husband, passed away. Unfortunately he suffered renal insufficiency for more than a year. He had his treatment at hospital but they couldn't do more to help him.

Because of times we're living with COVID-19, and following the rules from the government, any people who dies, not only because of the virus, they must be buried the same day the died, or the following day, not allowing more than 10 family members in their funeral. Until this hours, we don't know yet if he was buried during the afternoon of until tomorrow. Ana Luz explained she will try to visit the family during this difficult time and ye there's not update.

With all of this happening in the community, it could be good if you send your prayers to the community and to the family. We know how hard this type of situations are.

Our blessings and prayers for you and Church,
Wendy and José.

New Program! Art & Friendship Zoom Workshops

May 11 to June 29
ThirdSpace is pleased to partner with the Canadian International Institute of Art Therapy to offer The Art of Love and Friendship, a "social insistencing" program that will offer activities, resources, and conversation to reduce loneliness through creative expression using online interaction. This workshop, led by our own Marilyn Hahn, is for eight to ten women who may self-identify as lonely and are strongly committed to developing friendship-building skills. We will come together to use imagination, intuition, and inspiration for the healing of self and each other.  NO ART EXPERIENCE NEEDED! Just be willing to create, explore, take risks, share, and have fun. Space is limited.
Please contact Marilyn for more details and to  sign up.
