Dear AC Family,

Happy New Year and Welcome Back!

We would first like to take a moment to thank all of our families who were tested on Monday prior to our return. As you know, testing is one of the easiest ways that we can help mitigate the spread of COVID-19. We are grateful to the Louisiana Department of Health and NOLA-PS for providing us with the opportunity to offer routine testing for our students and faculty and staff.

At Algiers Charter, we put "Children first, for a better future." We know that our children learn best in person and in the classroom with their teachers and peers. We require masks and vaccines and prioritize testing in order to preserve in-person learning for as long as we can.

Unfortunately, the Omicron variant has other ideas for us. We have been monitoring our school community's test results, and the data has spoken. The number of positive cases will impact our ability to continue to offer in-person learning safely.

Tomorrow, Thursday, January 6th, Algiers Charter will pivot to virtual learning.

PK-2nd Grade students will be sent home with packets today to be completed during at-home learning. Students of these grade levels will not bring home devices from school.

Students in 3rd-8th Grades will be sent home with a device today, and you will receive more information from your child's teachers about virtual learning expectations, schedules, and assignments. If your child is absent today and is in need of a device, please contact your school leaders: Ms. Elenora Baldwin ([email protected]) and Ms. Trenell Jackson ([email protected]).

At this time, we plan to resume in-person classes on Monday, January 24th. So that we can maintain accurate records, please continue to send any positive test results to the school leaders listed above.

Once again, we thank you for your partnership and for entrusting Algiers Charter with your child's education and future.

Yours in education,
Talé Lockett
