Port launched free harbor tours

Great day on the Bay! We launched our Port of Oakland free harbor tours for the public with a news conference and took Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) children and other guests out to see the Port's maritime operations from the water. Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf, Oakland Schools Superintendent Antwan Wilson and Port Executive Director Chris Lytle were all on hand. Oakland Unified High School students
 receive $47,000 in scholarships

This year's Port of Oakland Employees Scholarship Program awardees are pictured here with Port Commissioners and staff. Congratulations to all the winners! The program is designed to encourage students in the Oakland public schools to continue with their education beyond high school and to contribute to the betterment of the Oakland community since inception. Port employees raised $47,000 this year and made these scholarships possible for fifteen high school students!
 

 

 
 

  

Port employees raised $44,000 for scholarships

To support the Port of Oakland Employees Scholarship Program, its volunteer committee recently hosted the annual golf tournament fundraiser in partnership with the Marcus Foster Education Fund, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the Oakland public schools. A special "Thank you" goes out to Port employees and all the participants in the golf tournament who made this scholarship fundraiser a success!

 

 

 

 
 

  

Port airport executives speak at
Montera Middle School Career Day

Port of Oakland Aviation Director Deborah Ale Flint and Associate Aviation Project Manager Joshua Polston spoke to fifth and sixth grade students about their careers at Montera Middle School in Oakland. The students asked questions about their work and saw a video about the Oakland International Airport operations.

 

 

 

 
 
 
Port's Luana España recognized at
2015 Oakland Chamber awards luncheon

The Oakland Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce held their 110th Annual awards ceremony in June. University of California President Janet Napolitano was the keynote speaker. Port Community Affairs Analyst Luana España was recognized as one of the 2015 Graduates of Leadership Oakland. The program offers Oakland's current and future leaders the opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of the role leadership plays in Oakland and the region.

Port hosts government officials from the Republic of India

The Port of Oakland today hosted a delegation of government officials from the Republic of India. This was made possible by a partnership with the University of California, Berkeley Goldman School Global and Executive Program. During their time here, the delegates met with various public and private sector officials in the region including the Port of Oakland.
 
Port Executive Director Chris Lytle, Social Responsibility Director Amy Tharpe, and Environmental Programs & Planning Director Richard Sinkoff met with the group. Discussion topics included: environmental stewardship programs, local hiring and local business utilization initiatives, and waterfront labor issues.

Jean Banker serves as new treasurer of the Women in Transportation
  

Jean Banker, Port of Oakland's Principal Assistant to the Executive Director, has been named the new Treasurer of the SF Bay Area Chapter of Women in Transportation Seminar (WTS). WTS seeks to close the workforce gap in the global transportation industry by promoting lifelong careers in transportation for women. By attracting, retaining, and advancing women in the industry, WTS International is recognized as a worldwide network of transportation subject matter experts.
