Meet the Port at West Oakland Jobs Resource Center

Meet the Port is a way to communicate with the Port of Oakland in a timely and accessible manner. If you have a questions about the Port and want to speak with someone, now you can reach us during office hours at the West Oakland Jobs Center monthly on the 3rd Tuesday from 9:00 am to 11:00 am and at the Cypress Mandela Training Center monthly on the 2nd Tuesday from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. You can also reach us on live chat at  www.portofoakland.com from Monday to Friday between 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. 
      

Port Employees join the  Oakland Running Festival

The threat of rain did not stop more than 30 Port team members from showing up at the Oakland Running Festival, with two in the full marathon, three in the half marathon and the rest of the participants in the 5K. Special thanks to Port volunteers who served 1,300 cups of free ice cream to visitors at the Port booth! We were glad to see so many people stop by and say hello.

      

Leadership Oakland learns about
 the environment and transportation

We were pleased to host the Oakland Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Oakland Class of 2016. The members toured the Oakland Seaport to learn about the connections between the environment and transportation. Port Attorney Danny Wan (L) gave an overview of the Port and Robert Raburn (C) from BART and Chris Kidd (R) from Transport Oakland also addressed Leadership Oakland. 
     

Unity Council hosts Fruitvale
Community Career & Resource Fair

The Port of Oakland participated in the Fruitvale Community Career & Resource Fair hosted by the Unity Council.  The resource fair was held in an effort to help individuals looking for a job and access community resources available to them. Port of Oakland receives Prescott-Joseph Center's
Community Service Award

Port Executive Director Chris Lytle accepted the Prescott Joseph Center's Community Service Award on behalf of the Port. The Port was recognized for its support of the organization's work and the contributions made to the West Oakland community at the Center's 20th Anniversary ceremony.

 
    
 
Oakland Youth Career Expo

We were glad to be a part of the 2016 Oakland Youth Careers Expo, where Oakland Bay Area industry leaders, trade unions, post-secondary institutions and local youth service providers met Oakland teens and young adults interested in careers and career training. We shared information about the Port of Oakland scholarship program for Oakland high school students and our paid Summer College Internship Program.

 
   
 
Kiva opens in Oakland

Kiva has launched in Oakland ! In partnership with the City, Kiva-Oakland currently helps about 600  local enterprises with Kiva micro -funds, with 1:1 match funds from the Oakland Small Business Development Center (OBDC) and other private funders. Kiva -Oakland offers a platform for crowd-sourcing zero-interest loans to assist these businesses.  Click here  to see successful Kiva loan recipients. Apply today for a Microloan!
 
 
  
Cypress Mandela Training Center's Executive Director
Art Shanks receives the Jefferson Award

After 23 years of hard work and dedication to Cypress Mandela Training Center, Art Shanks has been recognized for all of his efforts. On January 13th 2016 he received the Jefferson Award. The Cypress Mandela Training Center, Inc. offers a 16-week pre-apprenticeship program for Bay Area men and women over 18 years old. Training is both hands-on and in the classroom and prepares students for skilled trades jobs that are relevant to today's construction industry.
