¡Pinta tu Calavera! at Unity  Council's Día de los Muertos

Kids and their families braved the rainstorms Sunday to celebrate Día de los Muertos in the Fruitvale district. At the Port of Oakland's ¡Pinta tu Calavera! booth, everyone creatively decorated the sugar skulls and had a great time. Thanks for joining us! 



2016 Harbor Tours season ends on a festive note

The Port of Oakland ended Harbor Tours season with a festive Costume Cruise. Participants wore costumes and Port staff handed out candy for everyone to enjoy!



Truck diesel emissions at Port of Oakland 
down 98 percent in past decade

Diesel emissions from trucks serving the Port of Oakland declined 98 percent between 2005 to 2015. In that same time frame, ship emissions dropped 75 percent. Those were the key findings of an emissions inventory the Port released. The results indicate the Port is advancing its 2008 commitment to reduce seaport-related diesel health risk by 85 percent by the year 2020.



McClymonds High School's first annual career fair

Port of Oakland employees Parm Sandhu, Yen Kelly and Luana España spoke about their career paths at McClymonds High School's first annual Career Awareness Speaker Panel Event. Students learned that engineering, marketing and community affairs are a few of the career opportunities at the Port of Oakland.

FOD Cleanup at the Oakland International Airport

Thank you FedEx, JetBlue and Southwest employees for helping clear trash and debris on the FOD walks at Oakland International. FOD is lingo for "Foreign Object Debris". Great job on this cleanup day!
 
   

Kids learn to plant winter veggies at Eat Real Festival

Kids had fun planting winter veggies with the Port at the Eat Real Festival. They will watch the seeds sprout and grow into carrots, kale, lettuce and cauliflower. The Port has been exporting California produce since its early beginnings.

Port Contracting 101

Great turnout for the Port Contracting 101 session at Merritt College. The Port led a seminar to help small and local firms compete for upcoming Port business opportunities. Speakers included Port Executive Director Chris Lytle, Port Social Responsibility Director Amy Tharpe and Laney College Dean Peter Crabtree.

Port Board President Michael Colbruno receives honor

Port Board President Michael Colbruno was honored by the Golden Gate Business Association. President Colbruno helped create the nation's first LGBT Port affinity group. The group's mission is to help make California ports safe and welcoming for LGBT employees.


Port First Vice President Ces Butner receives the 2016 Legacy Award

The Jobs and Housing Coalition (JHC) celebrated 10 years at the 2016 Oakland Legacy Event. JHC honored the Port's First Vice President Ces Butner, San Francisco Foundation's Fred Blackwell and Dreisbach Enterprises' Marianne and Ronald Dreisbach with the 2016 Legacy Award for their outstanding work.
