 East Creek Slough or Middle Harbor Shoreline Park

Join us for our annual 2015 CA Coastal Cleanup Day at East Creek Slough on Saturday, September 19, 2015 from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm or Middle Harbor Shoreline Park from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.
  
Volunteers will help cleanup trash and debris to beautify our local waterways.

 Port gives backpacks to students at Prescott School

Port staff handed out 370 backpacks filled with school supplies, one for every student at Prescott School, West Oakland, CA. The Port donated the backpacks to the youngsters to help them get off to a good start the first week of school.
 
 
 
 
 
 Cal State University East Bay Success Summer Bridge students learn planning methods through hands-on training

24 Cal State University East Bay students in the Success Summer Bridge Program came to the Port's Middle Harbor Shoreline Park (MHSP) to reinforce their scientific methodology and biology concepts with hands-on practical training. Port Environmental Programs and Planning Director Richard Sinkoff gave the students an in-depth understanding of site-specific planning methods and led the students through a planning exercise. This event was the first of three that took place at MHSP.
 
 
 
 
 
Cal Maritime Summer Enrichment Program and East Bay Consortium/Cal-SOAP explore Port STEM careers

The Port enjoyed hosting the college-bound high school students participating in the Cal Maritime Summer Enrichment Program and East Bay Consortium/Cal-SOAP for an interactive program with a Port Overview, Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (STEM) Career Awareness Panel, and a Harbor Tour of the seaport.
 
 
 
 
 
Young African Leaders Initiative came to the Port to
 learn about Port operations and best practices

The Port of Oakland hosted two young African social entrepreneurs as part of the Obama administration's Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI). This program allows young leaders between the ages of 25 and 35 to learn about local governments and interact with business leaders. Yvonne Jila from Zimbabwe and Manyima Bojang from The Gambia learned about Port operations and best practices. The Port staff learned about the fellows' work in their home country.  
 
 
 
 
 
East Bay Community Foundation President James Head
teaches interns about philanthropy

Our summer interns visited the East Bay Community Foundation, one of the largest sources of philanthropic support in this area. Port Commissioner James Head is the Foundation's President and CEO. He explained to the interns how the foundation works to help people who want to give back to the community, solve complex problems, and make a difference.  
 
 
 
 
 
Local high school students received scholarships at
annual Asian Employees Association banquet

Congratulations to the 2015 Asian Employees Association (AEA) scholarship recipients! Employees in the AEA at the Port awarded a total of $10,000 to seven high school students from the following high schools: Oakland Technical, Fremont, Campolindo, and Mission San Jose. Since the program's founding, it has awarded $330,000 in scholarships to local area students.
 
 
 
 
 
Oakland International Airport opened a
new Visitor Information Center

Oakland International Airport opened a new contemporary Visitor Information Center in Terminal 1. 
 
This new and sleek Information Center expands OAK's ability to meet customer demand, provide enhanced customer service and enrich our passengers' overall terminal experience.
 
The two OAK Information Centers are staffed seven days a week by a team of 53 volunteers. These Customer Service Ambassadors provide general guidance to our customers including airport and airline operations information, tips for using ground transportation options to visit Bay Area attractions, and much more.

Request For Proposals: Educational Programs at
Middle Harbor Shoreline Park
  
The Port of Oakland is calling for proposals for the Educational Programs at Middle Harbor Shoreline Park (RFP No. 15-16/01). The RFP process is to obtain competitive proposals from qualified Respondents to provide educational outreach and teaching services for the Port at Middle Harbor Shoreline Park (MHSP). The Port is seeking a Naturalist to run the program. The mission is to educate and promote stewardship of our park's natural resources.
