In honor of Dorothy Gillespie’s unique place in art history and her approach to art, The Dorothy M. Gillespie Foundation has partnered with White Ladder Productions to produce a feature documentary titled “Dorothy Gillespie: Courage, Independence and Color”.
Last week I was in Manhattan working with filmmakers Jay Scala and Crystal White in their White Ladder Productions studio.
The filmmakers have traveled to cities across the country where they interviewed friends, artists, collectors, museum officials, university administrators, public art officials and others to paint a rich portrait of Dorothy Gillespie and her world.
The documentary will premiere on April 19 in Wilmington NC in the Thalian Hall, a historic theatre and performing arts center located in Downtown Wilmington NC, has served the local community since 1858. (Photo 1)
On May 5, the documentary will premiere in the Dr. Phillips Performing Arts Center, Orlando's main performance venue located in the heart of Downtown Orlando. (Photo 2)
On May 22, the documentary will have its Virginia premiere in Roanoke (my mother's hometown) in the Grandin Theatre. "Roanoke’s top movie palace opened its doors for the first time in March 26, 1932".(Photo 3)
