Hi!

Medicare Open Enrollment begins October 15 and runs through December 7.

Even if you are happy with your current Medicare coverage, this is a good time to review your plan and make sure it will still meet your needs in 2027.

Medicare Advantage and Medicare Part D prescription drug plans can change from year to year. Premiums, deductibles, copayments, prescription drug coverage, pharmacy networks, and participating doctors and other healthcare providers may be different next year.

Before Open Enrollment begins, take a little time to gather:

  • Your current Medicare and insurance cards
  • A list of your prescription medications, including the dosage and how often you take them
  • The names of your doctors and other healthcare providers
  • Your preferred pharmacy
  • Any notices you receive from your current Medicare Advantage or Part D plan about changes for 2027

Comparing Medicare options can be confusing.

Rhode Island's SHIP (State Health Insurance Assistance Program) provides free, unbiased Medicare counseling. SHIP counselors can help Medicare beneficiaries and their caregivers understand coverage options, compare plans, review prescription drug coverage, and better understand Medicare costs.

To connect with SHIP assistance in Rhode Island, you can:

Call United Way 211: Dial 211

Call the Aging and Disability Resource Center: 401-462-4444

There is no charge for SHIP counseling.

Open Enrollment doesn't begin until October 15, but preparing now can make it easier to compare your options once 2027 plan information is available.

Remember, you don't have to change plans just because Open Enrollment is happening. The important thing is to review your coverage and make an informed decision about what works for you.
