Programming: People First, Then Floors and Walls

To the Hanson Community,

Newsletter 2 | November 2025

Programming is the research done before the blueprint is created. Talking with staff, listening to residents, and looking at usage data helps define what spaces the community actually needs and how big they should be. We gathered input from all ages, from toddlers to teens to seniors. Using this data, we can plan building layouts and configurations of service areas that meet community needs.

How your input shows up in the plan:

  • Flexible rooms that can pivot from class to club to community meeting
  • True accessibility (mobility, vision, hearing) flexibly incorporated into layouts
  • Power, Wi-Fi, and seating conveniently located
  • Ample storage where it’s needed, with room to grow

Programming isn’t a wish list. It’s a calibrated scope that avoids “too big” and “too small,” protecting cost and making the building work hard, every day.

What to Expect Next:

A clear process, regular updates, and plenty of chances to weigh in. We’ll show you the plan and the price and explain the why.

You're Invited!!

Take a guided tour of the library to learn about the current building’s challenges and our plan to address them as part of the renovation.

Tours are offered at 10:00 am on every first Saturday from November to May. Can’t make Saturday? Contact us to schedule a different day.
