Sunshine Ballpark provides character building, educational fun for Fredericksburg area children through programs and partnerships with local law enforcement agencies, schools & community organizations. Built with support from the Sunshine Lady Foundation, The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation and the community, the ballpark is managed by the Sunshine Ballpark Foundation.

Yes! That's right! Sunshine Ballpark is open and ready to PLAY! With safety protocols being followed, along with state and city guidance, the Sunshine Ballpark is "roundin' third and headed for home" to bring back baseball, programs and events. The park shows signs of children, cheers, and laughter; BASEBALL season begins!

The Sunshine Ballpark Foundation is pleased to welcome Nick Hall, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Fredericksburg Nationals, to their Board of Directors.

Nick is a native of St. Louis, Missouri. Upon graduation from the University of Tennessee, he got is start in minor league baseball with the Jackson Generals, the AA affiliate of the Seattle Mariners and Arizona Diamondbacks.

In 2016, Nick became the youngest General Manager in the AA Southern League history when he was named General Manager of the Jackson Generals. Prior to moving to Fredericksburg for the FredNats' inaugural debut, Nick was in Texas with the newly formed Amarillo Sod Poodles and has earned three league championships so far in his career.

Sunshine Ballpark Foundation is excited to have Nick join the Board and offer his support.

Major League Baseball's Pitch, Hit & Run and
Junior Home Run Derby Is Making a Comeback!

After a year off, Major League Baseball’s youth skills events are coming back to the Fredericksburg area and ball fields across the nation!

Pitch, Hit & Run participants ages 7-14 are divided into four age groups to test their baseball or softball skills. Age group winners may earn the chance to compete at Washington Nationals Park and ultimately at the Major League Baseball World Series!

Area boys and girls are invited to participate in the FREE
Pitch, Hit & Run and Junior Home Run Derby
Saturday, May 15
9 a.m. to 4 p.m
Sunshine Ballpark (1200 Wicklow Drive in Fredericksburg)

Players may come anytime during the day and take part in one or both competitions. COVID precautions will be taken.



The Jr. HR Derby is open to boys and girls 12U and 14U.

Sunshine Baseball League Registration
The Sunshine Baseball League opened registration for the 2021 on March 6th. Season starts July 10 and runs through August with divisional league play for ages 8-19.

The league will also host a free baseball clinic at the new FredNats ballpark at a date TBA this summer.

Jackie Robinson Essay Contest 2021
The Germanna Community College/Fredericksburg Nationals Jackie Robinson Essay contest is open to juniors and seniors at high schools in Germanna’s service region (Fredericksburg, Stafford, Spotsylvania, Culpeper, Orange, King George, Madison and Caroline).
The essay will be 500 words or under and will explain how the student used one of the nine values Jackie Robinson said were key to his success in the face of extreme challenges to deal with a problem in their own life:
Courage, determination, teamwork, persistence, integrity, citizenship, justice, commitment, and excellence.
The prizes will be five $1,042 scholarships awarded by the FredNats to students entering Germanna.

Entries are now being accepted.
Deadline is May 19, 2021.
Winners announced June 19, 2021

The Fredericksburg Nationals are ready to play ball as they prepare for their Inaugural Season opener starting on Tuesday, May 4th against the Lynchburg Hillcats in Lynchburg, Virginia.
Their FIRST opening HOME game will be on Tuesday, May 11th at the FredNats Park - 42 Jackie Robinson Way, Fredericksburg, Virginia 22401.

Fredericksburg Area Museum - PlayBall! Exhibit Opens
The Fredericksburg Area Museum (FAM), opened a new exhibit,"PlayBall! America's Pastime in Fredericksburg". The exhibit is sponsored by Germanna Community College and The Fredericksburg Nationals.
Sunshine Ballpark Foundation and Board Members graciously loaned items on display.
