CASA Student Spotlight

CASA Student Spotlight is a curated section meant to centralize connections and foster a sense of community among peers who share similar interests, passions, and aspirations. How does it work? CASA Student Spotlight utilizes a randomized selection process. With over 100 CASA students, you never know who will be featured next! Join us in celebrating the richness of our student community.

Fernando was born and raised in Chico, California. He chose Butte College based on positive experiences shared by alumni, including family and friends. Currently studying psychology and business management, he sees it as a strategic path towards achieving his dreams of supporting mental health. Planning to transfer to Chico State, he is also exploring master's program options.

Outside of academics, he enjoys freestyling, time with friends & family, swap meets, and visiting his sister at Berkeley. Grateful for CASA's friendly support, snacks, and events, he finds it a valuable resource for developing life skills. He advises other students to utilize the programs available on campus and to stay positive in setbacks. His favorite thing about Butte College is the quality of education and the opportunity to meet new people. Additionally, he recommends the club sandwiches from dining services! His goals include staying on track with coursework, graduating with two associate degrees, and visiting CASA and EOPS. Despite facing challenges, he emphasizes the importance of processing emotions, coming out stronger, and is grateful for the support from his family and community.

"¡Raza in CASA!"

Cristal, originally from Salinas, CA, now lives in Gridley, CA. She chose Butte College because it made sense financially and the many opportunities it provides. She is currently studying biology to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. She was inspired to pursue this career because of the high stray population in Salinas. She plans to transfer to UC Davis or Oregon State for their vet medicine master's programs.

Outside of academics she enjoys playing volleyball and spending time with her friends. She enjoys CASA’s homey vibe and sees it as a safe, judgement free environment. CASA has also helped her open up and make connections. She advises students to plan for the unexpected by getting their homework done early. Her favorite thing about Butte College is the people. She says that there are a lot of nice people, and that the staff is student oriented. She also appreciates resources such as CAS, SI, and workshops. Some of her goals include transferring on her timeline, graduating with a bachelor's degree in biology, and then earning her master’s degree in vet medicine. She wants people to know that she is approachable and that you can always talk to her.
