It would be scattered if I had to pick one word for how I felt this week. I finished the repairs on our parents' house, found a lovely real estate agent, and got the house up for sale, and the 1st showing is today. There were also 10 trips to Goodwill and even more stealthy midnight walks to the dumpster at the nearby apartment building to dispose of what cannot be recycled. So far, no one has called the police. I'm sure I look like I murdered someone, chopped up the body, and am disposing of the evidence one limb at a time.
My implant surgery is scheduled for Tuesday, and I picked up the prescription for painkillers, anti-inflammatories, and antibiotics today for post-surgery. Picking up your painkillers before the surgery is somewhat anxiety-producing. I have to load up on Ibuprofen before the surgery and Tylenol-3 with codeine after the surgery. And before that, I have to do gummies to keep the anxiety down. We hope I am down to a dull pain level by Friday, and I can drive and start the journey home. The RV has a small leak in the water line, which I am trying to fix tomorrow (by myself, of course). There will be no newsletter next week because I will either be drugged to the gills, in pain, or on the road, and possibly all three.
Kim - You have a good week, but mostly, I hope I have a good week. :)

My book Travels Into Discomfort is available on Amazon.
It is a travel adventure in its prose and a journey to the heart in its poetry.
Travels Into Discomfort
“So called ‘late-bloomers’ get a bad rap. Sometimes the people with the greatest potential often take the longest to find their path because their sensitivity is a double edged sword- it lives at the heart of their brilliance, but it also makes them more susceptible to life’s pains. Good thing we aren’t being penalized for handing in our purpose late. The soul doesn’t know a thing about deadlines.” Jeff Brown.

Women’s History
Women, We Should Know -
The Joshitai, an elite corps of around twenty female warriors, made their last stand at Aizuwakamatsu Castle in 1868 during the fall of the Tokugawa shogunate.
Led by the expert swordswoman Nakano Takeko, these women from prominent Aizu families willingly took up arms to defend their domain against the much larger Imperial army.
Clad in armor over their kimonos and wielding an array of weapons including swords, spears, and naginata, the Joshitai fought fiercely as the Imperial forces attempted to breach the castle walls.
Despite their courage and skill, the women suffered heavy casualties due to their lighter armor and the relentless waves of attackers.
Takeko, even after being severely wounded by a bullet to the chest, continued to guide and inspire her fellow warriors.

Book and Movie Salon/Club -
2024 Schedule 2nd Mondays 5:30 pm
"It's not like I'm hiding that I'm gay from this friend, it's not that I don't want to tell her. It's just that the more I've grown into my queerness, the less I want to come out to straight people.
"What do I talk to these people about? How do I share feelings and intimacies without revealing this huge part of myself? Who am I without this queerness that now pervades my life, my politics, my everything?”
BAM Salon will discuss the book, Hijab Butch Blues by Lamya H., 2023. Sept 9th
This searingly intimate memoir, spans Lamya's childhood to her arrival in the United States for college through early-adult life in New York City. This story of courage, trust, and love, celebrating what it means to be a seeker and an architect of one's own life. Lamya H is fourteen years old when she realizes she has a crush on her female teacher. After years feeling out of place, one day in Quran class, she connects with a passage about a woman named Maryam. She goes on to make sense of her struggles and triumphs by comparing her experiences with famous stories in the Quran. An intimate self-reflection of becoming who you are.
Plan to join us on Monday, the 9th of September, 5:30p PST/8:30p EST for this telling read of self-reflection and embracing who you are meant to be.

This Week's Recommendation
Dark Winds on Netflix
AMC's Riveting Murder-Mystery Dark Winds Reclaims the Western | TV/Streaming | Roger
Based loosely on the Tony Hillerman books. I really enjoyed this series. It offers a fascinating glimpse into Navajo culture and beliefs. Well written series filmed against a stunning landscape.
2nd Recommendation
American Murder: Laci Peterson.- Fascinating documentary. So many details I didn't know. Looking at the evidence, I would have found him quilty beyond a shadow of a doubt.
