The APAC Program Returns to Forest Hill High School

Qualifying students will be able to select APAC academic courses at onsite registration. APAC arts courses will not be offered at Forest Hill in the upcoming school year. For more information, contact Advanced Learning Programs and Services at (601) 960-8310.

Jackson Public Schools has moved from four Chief Academic Officers to four Assistant Superintendents. These administrators will provide leadership, support and resources to all elementary, middle, and high schools in their assigned feeder patterns.

How do I find out what school my child will attend?

To determine your attendance zone school, contact the Office of Enrollment Services at (601) 960-8852.

How do I register my child for school?

Parents/legal guardians must make an initial visit to the school in their attendance zone in order to receive a Snapcode, which must be used to complete online registration. Schools are open for registration from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on weekdays with an hour for lunch from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Hours are extended on Thursdays until 6 p.m. For more information, contact the Office of Enrollment Services at (601) 960-8852.

How do I get help on the first day of school?

Call the Superintendent's Hotline at (601) 960-2781.The Superintendent's Hotline will be available on the first two days of school, August 8 and 9, 2017. Hotline operators will be answering calls from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Callers can get help with everything from registration to transportation.

How do I get my child to school?

JPS school buses provide transportation for students to their' schools and homes. Buses also provide round-trip transportation for students attending special programs, such as the Academic and Performing Arts Complex, the three International Baccalaureate schools, and McWillie Montessori school. The Transportation Department sends bus schedules to parents by mail before the first day of school. Parents who do not receive their student's bus schedule should contact the appropriate JPS Transportation center below.

How much do school meals cost?

JPS students receive breakfast and lunch meals at no cost as part of the Community Eligibility  Program (CEP). It provides an alternative approach to offering school meals to local educational agencies and schools in low-income areas, instead of collecting individual applications for free and reduced-price meals. The CEP allows schools that predominantly serve low-income children to offer nutritious school meals at no cost to all students through the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs.

How do I find out what schools are serving for breakfast and lunch?

Bookmark the Food Service Lunch Menus page at www.jackson.k12.ms.us/LunchMenus for breakfast and lunch menus by grade level. The menus are updated once a month throughout the school year. For more information, contact the Food Service Department at (601) 960-8911.

What supplies will students need for school?

Elementary school supplies are listed by grade on our website at www.jackson.k12.ms.us/SchoolSupplies. Students will need pencils and paper every day. Students will also need a Library Card. School supply lists for middle and high school students must be obtained from the school the student will be attending. Visit our School Directory page at www.jackson.k12.ms.us/SchoolDirectory.

Is there a dress code for students?

JPS has a mandatory dress code policy for elementary and middle schools. The recommended dress code guidelines are outlined in the Student Handbook and Code of Conduct. See page 16. Schools provide assistance to families that have a financial need to comply with uniforms. Parents should contact their child's principal if they need this assistance.
While the District does not have a mandatory policy for high school students, expectations for high school student attire are covered in the Handbook on page 17.

How can I get involved at my child's school?

JPS parents can become involved in their child's school through the PTA (Parent Teacher Association) or PTSA (Parent Teacher Student Association).  To learn about becoming a member, visit the Jackson Council PTA/PTSA website or inquire at your child's school. You can also ask about volunteer opportunities such as becoming a Book Buddy or a member of WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students). How do I view my child's grades?

ActiveParent is a web-based application that parents can use to keep track of students' records. To create an account, go to  https://jps.activeparent.net/ and click Sign Up for an ActiveParent Account.

When is the first day of school for students?

The first day of school for JPS students is August 8, 2017. The District Calendar At-A-Glance includes important dates for 2017-2018. Note March 30, 2018, and April 2, 2018, may be used as inclement weather make-up days if needed.

What days will schools be closed?

Schools will be closed on the holidays listed below in 2017-2018.

When are Parent-Teacher Conference Days?

There are two Districtwide Parent-Teacher Conference Days--October 9, 2017, and February 19, 2018. Schools will be open from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Parents may need to schedule a time to meet with teachers.
