Greetings!

What an amazing, Spirit-filled day we had last weekend! I'm so glad we ended Pride Month with a walk through the past. it's important for us to remember our heritage and to make sure all the work done FOR us reminds us to continue the work for OTHERS! I'm so thankful for Rev. Troy Perry and the work he has done to aid our community, our church, and beyond. We want to continue that ministry so others will have even more freedom.

We celebrated our six graduates last Sunday, but if you'll recall, I gave us all a challenge - to "graduate" to the next (rainbow) step! We are so blessed to be able to worship freely at Founders MCC/ICM Fundadora, yet we see so many challenges for our siblings around the country and the world. We have to continue to push back on the laws that are threatening the rights of our trans and gender-fluid siblings, and we must stay alert to the lawmakers who are trying to rid the USA of all freedoms for the LGBTQ community. "Run towards God," the prophet said in our reading last Sunday. God, we are running to You!

I'm so excited to report that we have appointed two new Lay Delegates, Niki Mohr (from the English service) and Edgar Cruz (from the Spanish service)! Do help me congratulate them in their new leadership roles!

This Sunday, we will begin a new sermon series entitled, Radical Hospitality: Come, Taste and See.  Pastor Bam Noriega will bring the message - you don't want to miss it! Come and be blessed!

Pastor Keith

Reading is taken from Psalms,

Chapter 34, Verse 8

(The Message Translation)

Open your mouth and taste,

open your eyes and see—

how good God is.

Blessed are you who run to God.

Welcome, New Lay Delegates!

We're so excited to announce the appointment of our new Lay Delegates for the next three years. Welcome Niki Mohr and Edgar Cruz! Niki is active in our 10:00 a.m. service, and Edgar is active in our 1:30 p.m. service. We so appreciate their dedication to God and FMCC/ICMF. Thank you to both!

Our Founders MCC Podcast entitled "Queer Christian Faith" Podcast is on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Iheart Radio, audible and our YouTube Channel MCCLATV mcclatv - YouTube

With the ICE, Homeland Security, and Border Patrol raids occurring so frequently here in Los Angeles, we at FMCC/ICMF realize the fear that many of our congregants have in leaving their homes. We are initializing an immediate ministry called, ANGELS. This ministry is for those who may be fearful of going to the grocery store, the pharmacy, and the department store and need to reach out to an ANGEL for help. It is also for people who may be willing to run these errands (for those too fearful to leave home currently) to let us know you're willing to BE an ANGEL. So, if you need an ANGEL, or if you're willing to be an ANGEL, please contact us at care@mccla.org and we'll match you up if at all possible.

There continues to be a need for a "White Wall" to help protect the attendees of our 1:30 Spanish-speaking service. Please see Pastor Keith.

Join CLUE (Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice) and other social justice groups who have been gathering weekly in Los Angeles to pray for the return of family members who have been detained or deported.

We invite people of all genders to accompany them and hold our disappeared community members in prayer. We are hurting along with them, and we have their backs.

This vigil takes place every Tuesday, Noon at the Los Angeles Federal Building.

Covid-19 Protocols

As we continue to cope with Covid-19, we are changing our protocols. The new protocols are in line with the rest of LA County. Until further notice, here are our guidelines:

1. We will no longer require vaccinations and boosters for church attendance, though we highly encourage them.
2. We will make wearing masks optional. Please feel free to continue wearing masks as you feel comfortable.

3. We ask people that have symptoms of (or tested positive for) Covid, flu, monkeypox, or any other easily communicable disease to please refrain from attending until they are well.

As we have from the very beginning of the pandemic, we will continue to keep in line with the advice of the LA County Public Health Department. Thank you so much for your patience as we navigate new guidelines.

Statement on Queer Youth of Faith Day

Today we celebrate Queer Youth of Faith—young people whose identities and beliefs are both vital parts of who they are. We honour their courage, resilience, and the unique wisdom they bring to our communities. Faith and queerness are not mutually exclusive; together they enrich our spiritual life, deepen our compassion, and call us to justice. 1 in 5 LGBTQ youth say their faith is important to them. Too many youth in churches, synagogues, mosques, and temples are told they must choose their faith or their queer identities. On Queer Youth of Faith Day, we celebrate LGBTQ+ youth who proudly embrace all of who they are!

We stand with queer youth of all backgrounds and denominations. We commit to listening, protecting, and uplifting them—ensuring safe spaces for worship, dialogue, and leadership. We reject shame, exclusion, and harm in the name of religion, and instead affirm the dignity, worth, and full participation of every young person.

In 1 Timothy 4:12 - “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.”

Queer Youth of Faith Day is a national celebration that honors and uplifts LGBTQ+ youth who hold faith as a meaningful part of their identity. It’s a day to affirm their courage, amplify their voices, and remind them they are beloved.

70% of our youth are being bullied at school for their sexuality, 67% report hearing families making negative comments about LGBTQ people, 31% have not disclosed their sexuality to their parents, 44% of transgender youth have not disclosed this to their parents (Human Rights Campaign LGBTTQ+ Youth Report 2023)

Statement from Eric Larriéux of MCC Detroit in MI, USA:

"This World Queer Youth Day, we celebrate the courage, resilience, and unique contributions of LGBTQ+ youth. Every young person deserves to feel safe, valued, supported, and loved exactly as they are.

We at MCC Detroit recognize the challenges many LGBTQ+ youth face and stand committed to creating communities where they can thrive, grow, and pursue their dreams without fear of discrimination or exclusion.

To LGBTQ+ youth: your identity is something to be honored, not hidden. Your voice matters, your dreams matter, and your future matters. You belong in your families, schools, communities, and places of worship without fear of rejection or discrimination. You belong, you are worthy, and you are never alone.

World Queer Youth Day is more than a celebration, it is a reminder that visibility, acceptance, and equality are commitments we must uphold every day. We stand with LGBTQ+ youth and affirm their right to live authentically, pursue their goals, and thrive in environments that celebrate their full humanity.

Today and every day, We celebrate the diversity that strengthens our communities and commit ourselves to creating a world where every LGBTQ+ young person can flourish with dignity and pride. Happy World Queer Youth Day!"

Statement from Sarrah, from Texas, USA:

“I choose to be Muslim. I choose the culture that I love, and I am both queer and Muslim. No matter how hard anyone tries, that will not change. I am all of the above…”

Prayer:

Loving Spirit, Source of all and wisdom for all. We hold our queer youth in your tender light. Surround them with safety when the world feels cold, give them courage when they face fear and hatred, and rest when they are weary.

Guide their hearts to know they are worthy, that their identities are sacred, and that they are to be included and loved by all. Give them friends, family and mentors who will listen, protect, and celebrate them, communities where faith and truth can flourish together.

Comfort those who feel alone; heal wounds of rejection and shame. Give wisdom to families, leaders, and congregations to love without condition. May they be included in their many faiths and religions and be fully seen. Bless their journeys with strength, peace, and the promise of belonging.

Amen.

May this day renew our promise to build communities where queer youth of faith can flourish—be seen, celebrated, and be fully loved.
