PART 108 UPDATE
Your Cascade AUVSI executive team and industry players from Oregon and Washington met in person and online September 24, 2025 to discuss the good, the bad and the ugly concerning the FAA and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) for the long awaited Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) rules.
The consensus was that while industry applauds FAA for developing and publishing the proposed regulatory framework for BVLOS missions and recognizes that the NPRM is a critically important step to enable BVLOS missions to operate safely and at scale, the proposed rule as written will not achieve that purpose.
Therefore, at the September 24, 2025 meeting, the Cascade team and industry group outlined key issues to address in comments on the proposed NPRM, that are reflected in AUVSI Cascade’s official comments filed October 6, 2025 with the FAA. Read full comments submitted

Oregon UAS Innovation Challenge Opens Applications for 2026 Cohort
The Oregon UAS Accelerator announced the opening of applications for its 2026 Oregon UAS Innovation Challenge, a competitive, milestone-driven program designed to accelerate growth for startups in the unmanned and autonomous systems ecosystem. This year’s expanded scope welcomes companies developing aerial platforms, ground robotics, sensors, payloads, AI/ML, and supporting technologies at TRL 3 or higher.
The Oregon UAS Accelerator is Oregon's premier program for accelerating unmanned aerial systems, robotics, and autonomous technology startups. Through competitive programming, comprehensive testing infrastructure, and direct investor access, the accelerator supports the development of Oregon's position as a national hub for autonomous systems innovation.

AUVSI President and CEO Michael Robbins delivered the opening keynote at the 2025 ISR Drone Showcase, hosted by ADS, Inc. on October 8–9 at Xelevate in Leesburg, Virginia. Robbins highlighted AUVSI’s advocacy to modernize warfare through UAS innovation and autonomy, expand BVLOS operations, and address key policy issues including PRC drone restrictions, Section 232 reviews, and NDAA Section 1709 implementation.
