Recent research points to how community health information exchanges (HIEs) reduce the cost of care, improve patient safety, and decrease duplication of labs and X-rays. However, another potential benefit of HIEs is beginning to emerge: support for increased revenue.

When it comes to improving value, community HIEs have an advantage over a proprietary HIE, including supporting less duplicated procedures, reduced imaging costs, and improved patient safety, according to research from Indiana University.
