Do You Use DIRECT Messaging?

DIRECT messaging is SIMPLE and SECURE and works like secure email. Unlike RHIO Explore, which has information from many sources, DIRECT is a point-to-point exchange allowing one care provider to send specific information to another securely.

  • Do you need to refer a patient to another provider?
  • Do you need to support a care transition for a patient to another care setting?

Rochester RHIO is a DirectTrust Certified HISP , which basically means seamless integration with other HISPs ALL over the country. While many EHR vendors include DIRECT as part of their product to support Meaningful Use requirements, practices do not need to have an EHR to use DIRECT messaging services with Rochester RHIO. This service may also be available for non-HIPAA organizations.

Those of us working in Information Technology have the ability to touch thousands of lives with our work. Read more...

#IHeartHIT, HIMSS’ yearlong storytelling initiative, helps shine a light on the human side of health information and technology and the impact it can have on the health and wellness of every person, everywhere. Stories are meant to be personal, authentic health experiences from patients, care-givers, and family members where information and technology has made a difference for all those involved. Rochester RHIO shares this story as an official partner for National Health IT Week to increase awareness and education about the critical need for health IT support and infrastructure.

Medical Director's Corner:
Just So YOU Know

Hello friends,

Recent research points to how community health information exchanges (HIEs) reduce the cost of care, improve patient safety, and decrease duplication of labs and X-rays. However, another potential benefit of HIEs is beginning to emerge: support for increased revenue.

In an era of value-based care, community HIEs present an attractive opportunity to protect and increase revenue for physician practices. When it comes to improving value, community HIEs have an advantage over a proprietary HIE, including supporting less duplicated procedures, reduced imaging costs, and improved patient safety, according to research from Indiana University.
