November 2026

Dear Books Are Gems Families,

Reminder! Join us today, Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Books Are Gems for two wonderful stories: “Otis Knows (How to Be a Bear)” and “Mia Learns about Veterans Day.” Then keep the fun going with free arts and crafts after Storytime!

The first 15 families will receive both featured books FREE, in addition to the one new book and 10 gently used books available to each child. Bring the kiddos for a morning of reading, creativity, and time together!

As Veterans Day approaches, we thank the men and women who have served our country for their courage, service, and sacrifices. Remember to thank a veteran on Veterans Day—and every day!

Books Are Gems will be closed Wednesday, November 11, in their honor.

We look forward to seeing everyone Saturday—and stay tuned for our upcoming Thanksgiving Celebration!

MIA LEARNS ABOUT VETERANS DAY - DANNY JOHNSON

Veterans Day is more than a holiday—it’s a chance to remember and say thank you.

In this heartwarming picture book, young Mia learns the meaning of Veterans Day from her mom, her teacher, and her grandpa who once served as a soldier. With simple words and cheerful illustrations, children discover how brave men and women helped keep us safe and why we honor them today.

Otis Knows (How to Be a Bear) by Liz Garton Scanlon and Martha Brockenbrough

Inspired by the life of a real Alaskan brown bear named Otis, who rose to internet stardom during Fat Bear Week, this heartwarming picture book invites young readers to celebrate their differences and embrace their individuality.

Because Otis knows something we can all get the best way to be…is to be yourself, in your own time and in your own unique way.
