February 2023
The purpose of the St. Joseph Public Schools Foundation is to raise, steward and distribute resources to enrich the education of students in the St. Joseph Public Schools District.
THANK YOU!
Your generous support has filled us with gratitude.
Thanks to you, the St. Joseph Public Schools community remains strong and vibrant.

Long time donors, new donors, corporate friends, volunteers, social media followers, ENCORE participants, staff, we appreciate you ALL!
STEM or STEAM?
STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. At SJPS, arts are included, ranging from visual arts, language arts and physical arts to music and more.
FIRST Robotics competitions, also referred to as the ultimate Sport for the Mind, combine the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology. The SJPS Foundation has annually supported "The Joes," and secured funding for the Edward J. Todd Innovation Center which houses all SJ Robotics Programs. In addition, it has supported district-wide STEAM initiatives.

We would like to invite everyone to attend the

Meet Jenna Zimanski '23

"I have made a lot of wonderful memories over my years on the team, however, I think my favorite has to be the St. Joe competition in 2020, The only competition before the Covid-19 lockdown. We beat Stryke Force in the semi-finals with 105 penalty points."

SJPS uses the Daily 5 structure. Students read-to-self daily for 15+ minutes during breaks/transitions and when independent opportunities arise. Each student has an individual book bin that houses 5-6 books at a time, and students swap them out weekly.
"Our goal is to represent our students and their classmates in the books they pick up and read, creating 'mirrors' and 'windows' into others' cultural and ethnic experiences."

~Mrs. Borre
New Books = Engagement and Excitement
The more adventures, tales, and characters students are exposed to, the more their world opens up and allows them to see outside their physical boundaries.
Mario Kart Tournament
32 SJHS students recently competed in a Mario Kart Tournament sponsored by the Student Foundation. After the field was narrowed down to four finalists, the crowd moved from the social studies hall to the Performing Arts Center to see the championships play out on the big screen.

Thank you for letting us use your classrooms Mr. Cole, Mr. Church, Mr. Uren and Mr. Walters.

Special thanks to Mr. Roll, Auditorium and Facilities Manager, for enthusiastically embracing
the tournament! Thanks also to the SJHS Graphic Design students for creating our event poster.
Congratulations finalists and all participants!

Remembering DLB

Dennis L. Bowen served on the SJPS Board of Directors from 2005 until the time of his passing. He was the organization's secretary and took great pride in keeping accurate minutes for BOD meetings and the Project Committee. Dennis also served as the Chair of the Suchovsky Scholarship Committee. His quick wit and warm personality immediately put students at ease. These same characteristics made him a joy to work with.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, thank you for the outpouring of kindness and support, as we mourn the passing of our dear friend and colleague. His presence will remain as we continue the good work of which he was so proud, supporting the teachers and students of the
