Questions and Answers

What is a Volunteer and how important is it?

SYA is a non profit volunteer sports organization. Quite simply, volunteers are our single most important asset. We depend on volunteers. When an SYA sport is short of volunteer coaches, our seasons are delayed. When we are short of Commissioners and/or Age Group Coordinators, the seasons are delayed. In a worst case scenario, refunds are issued and kids don't get to play.

Its a tiresome and challenging world that we live in today versus 30 years ago. Back then not every household had two parents working. We get that and we understand that today, many families have both parents working. Unfortunately we still need you to volunteer.

So please get your kids registered and then select the Team / Staff Volunteer!

We hope this information is useful and strive to continue to keep you informed. If you have any questions, please contact us at

Coaching Parents for a Positive Sports Culture

The news is filled with stories about parents behaving badly at sporting events, and coaches and game officials are often on the receiving end of that poor behavior. PCA workshops designed especially for parents focus on the specific role parents should play in creating a positive sports experience for their child and could go a long way towards redirecting parents’ energy. When parents participate in one of our workshops, they’re appreciative of the message and the tools we provide, but their number one comment on the evaluation is “every parent should be here.” Unfortunately getting parents to attend workshops is nearly impossible.
