COVID Information

SYA wants to thank all members for their efforts in relation to being safe. Your Board of Directors appreciates everyone's patience and understanding of adjustments that have been needed in relation to COVID and ensuring everyone's safety.

With the new guidelines from all federal and local agencies, including the Fairfax County NCS department that issues our permits, we no longer have significant Return to Play guideline requirements. Our spring registration numbers have grown back to pre-COVID levels and that is a great sign that people are ready to get back to the gyms and fields to play ball.

Our thousands of volunteers and players are eager and ready to coach and play! We do want to remind everyone that we still need to be safe. Please review our updated policies/protocols and please make sure that:

IF YOU ARE SICK OR HAVE ANY SYMPTOMS, PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM SYA ACTIVITIES AND SEE A DOCTOR

Please refer to our updates on our website for the Return to Play protocols..

Questions and Answers

WHY ARE REGISTRATIONS SO EARLY?

Most simply stated, we need time to find volunteers and then organize the programs, and knowing how many athletes to plan for, is critical.

As a non profit organization, we depend heavily on volunteers as coaches, officials, and in various other roles. If we don't know how many athletes we have, we don't know how many coaches and officials we need. Each season is different and while a lot of our volunteer coaches stay with us from year to year, it is a vastly changing network that has to be managed.

Additionally, since we are a volunteer organization, we also must apply for permits from the County in order to utilize the school and park facilities. An example of this is that to prepare for the Fall Season, we must submit to the County NCS department our requested needs for gyms/fields by JUNE 1 each year.

There are many other reasons that we need you to register early, including to organize practice and game schedules, find additional volunteers, and secure insurance.

SYA is an independent non profit program and does not receive assistance or funds from Fairfax County. Over the last 49 years, SYA has worked to streamline this process and have tried many different ways to combat these issues.
