IMPORTANT - If an incident has occurred:
1. Take care of the injured/find a safe place.
2. Preserve and document the evidence/take photos if appropriate.
3. Complete an incident report and notify your local council.

Timely, clear, concise, and complete incident reports allow for an appropriate response and an opportunity for analysis while promoting continuous improvement of our programs. You can report incidents, near misses, and youth protection / membership infraction incidents yourself at the link below, which will notify the council of the incident.

Safeguarding Youth/Membership Infraction Information Reporting Tool
Use this tool to report all allegations of abuse, violations of BSA guidelines or policies, inappropriate behavior by a Scout/Scout leader/parent/other.
Near Miss Incident Information Reporting Tool
Use this tool to report near misses in programs such as COPE and climbing activities. A near miss is an incident that did not result in injury, illness, or damage by definition but that had the potential to have done so.

| | New Scout Executive – Robert Johnson | |

Robert Johnson will serve as the 8th Scout Executive of the Middle Tennessee Council effective July 16, 2025.
Robert began his Scouting career as District Executive at the Black Warrior Council in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He was promoted to Program Director and later promoted to Field Director with the Black Warrior Council. He moved on to become the Director of Field Service of the Blue Ridge Council in Greenville, South Carolina before becoming Assistant Scout Executive of the South Florida Council in Miami, Florida. He was then selected as the Scout Executive of the Flint River Council in Griffin, Georgia where he successfully led the council through the tough years of the pandemic and the BSA bankruptcy. Because of his leadership, Flint River Council has stayed strong financially while fully staffed.
Robert is an Eagle Scout who enjoys travel, bird hunting, spending time with family, and following the University of Alabama Football. Robert and his wife, Elizabeth, have 5 children.
Robert states “It is a professional dream come true to work with the volunteers and staff of the Middle Tennessee Council to provide young people with the life changing opportunities Scouting offers.”

Wood Badge is Scouting’s most advanced training for adults offered at the Council level. A national course open only to Scouting volunteers and professionals, the training has two distinct parts. The first part takes place outdoors where the aims and methods of Scouting are explained and demonstrated by a volunteer staff of fellow Scouters. During the second part, participants will show their knowledge of leadership principles by completing a set of personal goals related to their Scouting positions.

A Trade-O-Ree is a gathering of collectors and Scouting enthusiast who trade, barter, buy, and sell Scout patches and other Scouting memorabilia. The Middle Tennessee Council Cope and Climbing Committee provides a unit-level training program for climbing and rappelling. The program requires two weekends for completion. At the end of the first weekend you will qualify to receive your Climbing Instructor Level I trained card (valid 1 year). After attending a second session, helping provide instruction, and exhibiting proficiency in the taught skills, you will be qualified to receive your Climbing Instructor Level II card (valid for 3 years).
Each session starts on Friday evenings at 6 p.m. and concludes on Sunday evenings around 6 p.m. Locations include Boxwell Reservation and a natural rock area about 2 hours from Boxwell.

The Middle Tennessee Council is excited to announce they will be hosting NRA Basic and Instructor courses each weekend in October at Boxwell Scout Reservation taught by nationally certified Training Counselors and Instructors. The Middle Tennessee Council needs competent and willing individuals to become certified in the various firearm programs the help support the year-round activities within the Council.
NRA basic courses are open to all potential instructors and individuals who would like more in depth training on the fundamentals for shooting in each discipline. We will stress the importance of gaining knowledge, learning skills and having the proper attitude while having fun learning and building your firearms skills and abilities.
To become an NRA instructor: The NRA requires instructor candidates to complete the discipline specific basic course, NRA basic instructor training covering policies and procedures offered on September 27, 2025, and pass the discipline specific instructor course which have both a written and shooting proficiency test for the discipline you are wanting to become certified in.

All six Scouting America councils have partnered with Nobody Trashes Tennessee. Scouts are encouraged to participate in cleanup and beautification service projects.They can earn a special NTT patch by completing educational worksheets, joining or organizing litter cleanups, or taking part in beautification efforts.
Scouts aged 12 and older can also participate in the Adopt-A-Highway program to earn both a patch and roadway recognition by committing to quarterly cleanups. Patches are free to Scouts.
Scouts of all ages are also encouraged to take part in statewide cleanup events such as the Great American Cleanup, Earth Day, and No Trash November—or to host their own events.
