Greetings!
I want to thank you all for your attendance at our Congregational Meeting last Sunday. I so appreciate our Board, Creative Worship Team, and all the Team Leaders for helping us get all the reports in, as well as get the meeting on Zoom. I know it's not a perfect situation, but we are working to make it as easy as possible. We are certainly moving into a new era, a new way of doing things, and I believe we'll be able to start worshiping with our hybrid model in the near future.

Many thanks to Dean Coffey, who has served on the Board for the last six years. During my tenure as Sr. Pastor, he has been the Vice-Moderator of the Board...in other words, my right hand. He has done so many things behind the scenes, and I can't thank him enough for the prayer, energy, and fortitude to keep things moving. I want to thank and congratulate Bob Stayton for completing one term and being elected for a second term on the Board. Bob is so faithful, and he, too, has done much behind the scenes to aid in the business of the church. I want to welcome to the Board, Kim Doneche! We are all looking forward to working with Kim; she brings a multitude of experience, knowledge, and energy, but most importantly, a calling to work for God. Welcome, Kim!

Over the last couple of weeks, we have been privileged to hear the voices of two amazing former Sr. Pastors of Founders MCC (Los Angeles): Rev. Dr. Troy Perry (our Founder and first Sr. Pastor) and Rev. Lee Carlton (our second Sr. Pastor). We've heard of the beginnings of our congregation/denomination, hearing the excitement in their voices as the congregation grew and had to move from building to building to accommodate the people. We've heard how congregants took ownership of our building in 22nd and Hill St. and made it into a gorgeous sanctuary for worship. We've also heard how that same building was burned to the ground by an arsonist, and how many of our churches, pastors, and congregants have been threatened, beaten, burned out, and some even killed by hatred. Yes, MCC has persisted, and we are still here!

This Sunday, we will continue our series on Looking Back; Looking Forward, and we'll hear from another former Sr. Pastor of FMCC, Rev. Jeri Ann Harvey. We have a short clip of Rev. Jeri Ann's message about "clowns." Rev. Jeri Ann was a formidable woman and compelling preacher - her messages were always inspiring, simply complex, and complexly simple. You will be blessed. My message this Sunday is entitled, Send In The Clowns. If you'd like to read ahead, check out I John 4:7-16 (Message) and St. John 15:1-8 (Contemporary English Version).

Please keep our sister, Teresa Burch Rodriguez in prayer this week...her mother passed away, and it is a difficult time for her. I'll solicit your prayers for myself, as well, as I took the second Moderna vaccine shot on Thursday.

I look forward to seeing you online this Sunday. (Just a little while longer, saints! We'll start to re-gather soon!)

Hospitality - online - after worship!
Don't forget that we have a time of Hospitality after worship each Sunday. The link is at the top of the first page of our website. Come and have some fun with your church family!
It has been almost a month of Sundays since we celebrated Easter. Thank God for a Season of Easter, during which we can keep our focus on the life-giving power of The Resurrection. Indeed, we are called to live out the meaning of our Resurrection-Life on a daily basis, by the ways in which we influence the individuals, institutions, and situations we face. All of us have the opportunity to be agents of change for the good of those around us in our family, on our job, within our church community, and therefore in our world. What we need is courage to act even in the smallest ways. Everytime we speak truth to those in places of power, we chip away at the structures which continue to cause hunger, suffering and death in our communities. Everytime we reach out to one person in need, to share the resources we possess, we improve that situation by breaking the chain of isolation and oppression. Everytime we join with others to fight against policies which are harmful to the least of our sisters and brothers, we bend the arch of the universe a little closer to true justice and equality. So this is my prayer for us all:

Loving Creator, Beautiful Savior, Sweet Holy Spirit --
Because you have already conquered evil, fear and death --
Empower each of us who love and follow you to do the same --
As you fill us with your Love, Mercy, and Grace, help us to be merciful and compassionate
As you fill us with your mighty power to save, help us to speak and act with holy boldness
As you daily renew the Spirit of Chirist within us, help us to humbly yet bravely fight for Justice, Equality, and Peace.
In all your holy and righteous names, hear our prayers,
O God...Amen...Ashé...And May It Be So!
