A Word from ASLC on Short-Term Cottage Rentals

As many of you know, the mission of the Association of Ston(e)y Lake Cottagers (ASLC) is to advance and advocate for the recreational, environmental and other shared interests of us Lakers.

We'd like to highlight a timely issue that the ASLC recently communicated about to its membership, as it's one that impacts our larger, shared community. Here's what they had to say:

Advocating for a Responsible Approach to Short-Term Rentals

Most cities and municipalities are grappling with issues surrounding short-term rentals, and we are no exception. The ASLC advocates for a thoughtful, responsible approach to short-term rentals. We understand that for some, renting out the family cottage for part of the Summer is the only way to make cottaging affordable in the face of sky-high housing costs. On the other hand, commercial operators who purchase property for the sole purpose of renting, without taking responsibility for their renter's actions, can be harmful to the health of our community and our Lake.

The Douro-Dummer Town Council will vote on the issue of short-term rental bylaws at the Council Meeting on October 3rd at 5pm. We encourage you, our members, to participate and make sure your voices are heard either by attending in person or signing the petition HERE.

Thank You to Dock Removal Volunteers!

It's hard to believe that another summer has drawn to a close and that our sailing docks are now nestled safely away for their winter hibernation.

A huge thank-you to everyone who showed up on September 16 to lend a hand, under the veteran supervision of Jason Colbert.

By the way, Jason's term as Property Director is up next summer and the club will need volunteers to coordinate the key areas of our property needs: Docks, Courts, Buildings and Grounds.

If you or someone you know could take on one of these Property areas of need, please reach out to Jason (jasoncolbert29@gmail.com) or Greg Plant (slyccommodore1@gmail.com).

Thank you!

Stay Safe.
