Author Talk: Lee Mandel - Sterling Hayden's Wars
Tuesday, June 19 @7pm
Author Lee Mandel sheds light on the private wars of Sterling Hayden, examining his personal life, custody battles, alcohol and substance abuse, and depression. Sterling Hayden was a Hollywood actor who appeared in The Asphalt Jungle, Dr. Strangelove and The Godfather among other films. Casting aside his acting career, he trained as a commando in Europe and earned a Silver Star for distinguished service. He became a Communist Party sympathizer after the war. This story hits close to home since the Haydens moved to Wilton in 1968. Sterling died in 1986. Lee Mandel has a long and decorated history having served in the Navy, retiring in 2013 as Command Flight Surgeon. He has written for several history and military history journals.  More info & register
