    Anti-Racism, Multicultural Workshop
Sunday, December 8th ~ 12:30-2:00 pm, Hunnewell Chapel

This workshop will offer some tools to explore issues relating to race, ethnicity, and cultural identity, both individually and institutionally. There will be a short video excerpt, exercises, and small group discussions. There will also be an opportunity to explore the “continuum” (distributed at the last Corporation Meeting) on becoming an anti-racist, multicultural institution. This endeavor is supported by the Prudential Committee (our governing board), and involves the whole congregation; all are welcome and encouraged to attend. The workshop is sponsored by Arlington Street’s “Building the World We Dream” team.

    Healing Thoughts for Herb

Long-time Arlington Street member Herb Gleason was in the hospital this past week with a serious illness. He’s home now, on the flats of Beacon Hill, and he would certainly enjoy our well wishes. Please send cards and greetings to Herb by the church office, and Rev. Kim will deliver them.

Put Arlington Street on Your Holiday Shopping List

As you’re shopping for the holidays, ask merchants to donate something fabulous for the silent auction that’s a highlight of Indulge, Arlington Street’s annual fundraiser on March 1st, 2014. Just remember that proceeds from Indulge go to support the good works of Arlington Street Church. The gift should be new and have a value of $75 or more. Unsure of what makes a great auction item? A gift card always takes the guesswork out of giving!

    The Mitten Tree
    Sunday, December 15th ~ 11:00 am, Sanctuary

Please bring new, unwrapped gloves, hats, scarves, and socks for the gentlemen guests of our Friday Night Supper Program. Let’s decorate the Mitten Tree!

    Friday Night Supper Program

Help your homeless and hungry neighbors!

The Friday Night Supper Program has been serving hot, nutritious, meals to over 150 homeless and low-income people every Friday evening since 1984. This year’s Christmas supper will be on December 20th. There are many ways in which you can support the program:
    • We welcome Arlington Street volunteers to help with the Christmas meal—either during the daytime prep shift (1-4 pm), or in the evening to help serve the meal (5-7:45 pm)
    • Make a tax deductible cash donation
    • Donate clothing and toiletries. At this time of year, we need winter hats, gloves, and scarves for our holiday gift bags.
    • Secure monetary donations can be made by following the DONATE link on our website. To volunteer or for more information, contact the Executive Director, Amber Pittenger at, 617-536-7050 x22 or email Amber at info@fridaynightsupper.org.

    Advent 2: Peace

Sunday’s service opens with a chalice lighting dedicated to the memory of Nelson Mandela — presente! — and the lighting of the advent wreath in honor of the birth of prophets old and new. We welcome new members — with great joy! — and music includes Billy Joel tunes by Nick Place on piano; a solo by soprano Julie Gregorio from a Bach cantata for Advent; the choir singing John Tavener’s beautiful setting of William Blake’s “The Lamb;” and Rodger Clinton Vine on organ! Rev. Kim is preaching “Fruitcake”—a sermon about leaving holidays past in the past, and choosing to make wonderful new memories.

Come experience the Soul of Sunday! Come, keep the faith ... and carry it on!
