A Time To Celebrate!

"For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others." Romans 12:4-5

When GROW Living Stones, then Living Stones, served its first meal at Brookline Boulevard United Presbyterian Church on April 29, 2012, we had seven volunteers. That’s right, seven volunteers, five of whom are pictured here! We can’t remember exactly how many neighbors we served that day, but God sent far more than we expected. And He has been blessing us in ways that exceed our expectations ever since.

Just look at this picture! Our volunteer base now numbers more than 100, although not all were there when this picture was taken at our Volunteer Appreciation and 10th Anniversary Open House on Sunday, May 22, at the Bethel Park Community Center. What a wonderful time we had celebrating the men, women, and children who faithfully nurture and grow God’s ministry, happily sharing His love in a multitude of ways.

“It was such a great event,” said Kathy, who volunteers with her husband one Sunday every month. “We reconnected with a couple we hadn’t seen in years. Neither John and I nor our friends knew the others were volunteering with GROW Living Stones since we serve at different locations.” All four had planned to stop by briefly but changed their plans and stayed for nearly the entire two-hour event.

It was clearly a time to mingle, whether you were part of the GROW Living Stones mingler ministry or not. With well-established teams serving at three separate locations and many serving individually behind the scenes, there were numerous opportunities to meet new people and put faces to names previously seen only in writing. It was a joyous and happy time, full of laughter, lively conversation, good food, and friends, both old and new. Relationships were deepened there, just as they are during meals with our neighbors.

This special gathering was also a wonderful way to celebrate God’s faithfulness over the past 10 years. We are awed that He has enabled us to not only feed those in need, but to help clothe and care for them in other ways, as well. As we step into the next decade, it is our desire to continue prayerfully and obediently seeking and following God’s will as, together, we GROW His ministry into just what He has designed it to be.

GROW Living Stones fosters the cultivation of relationships with neighbors who join us for meals at Living Stones tables. As relationships develop and deepen, GROW Living Stones volunteers come alongside those individuals and families to assist them in navigating the challenges in their lives and encourage them to find hope in Christ as they learn to trust Him.
