SOMETHING ROTTEN IN THE STATE
OF RALLYING? - MORE REACTION
My recent article has attracted further comment...

Thanks for your article on the state of rallying.

I have been saying this is what has destroyed rallying for years. You need to have great events to attract the public, competitors and the media; manufacturers will follow if it is an iconic event. You only have to look at what The Tour of Britain has done in the last ten years, from a nothing event it has toured the UK, drawing massive numbers of fans (me included); I now have two bikes and all the gear and watch cycling all over the world - my missus has two bikes as well!

This was the same format which attracted me to Weston Park on the RAC Rally 33 years ago and I have been involved in the sport ever since. However, most of my friends (who were regulars) stopped watching years ago, as they said it had become boring. I only go now because it's work.

Finally the Roger Albert has announced a route worth getting excited about and the entries are flocking in. Will we see it go back to the events, or just the rounds - The Rally of 1000 Lakes or Rally Finland - which is best?
