Florida's well heeled ladies step up to support Easter Seals

Matthew and Bob Frier at Pair 2012
Ambassador Matthew and FOX 35's Bob Frier work the runway!

Easter Seals Florida's statewide event, A Pair to Remember, proves to be a smashing success. Women across the state gathered for three Fridays in a row in Tampa, Winter Park and West Palm Beach, to raise money for our programs at A Pair to Remember luncheons. The events were one for the books, each exceeding their financial goals for a NET total of nearly $150,000 to support programs across the state.

On behalf of the thousands of clients we serve, we extend a very sincere thank you to the nearly 700 stylish women (and a few men) who gave so generously to Easter Seals.  Stay tuned for the 2013 dates!

Flood of Support Saves Camp Challenge Pool

Matthew in the PoolWe asked and you answered .... And the response was A-MAZING! We are so pleased to report that in just six short months, we have reached our fundraising goal to build a new accessible pool at Camp Challenge! The best part is, we reached that goal 7 months early!

Changes to federal law require all pools without a main drain collector tank to be retrofitted with a properly sized and piped collector tank by 2013. The total project cost is estimated at $250,000. To date, we've raised nearly $268,000! The new pool will accommodate more campers and will include a volleyball net, shade structure and water features for cooling and for fun! Construction is set to begin after this year's summer sessions.

For nearly 51 years, swimming has been the most beloved activity at the Lake County camp for people, ages 6 and older, with disabilities. The pool was the first feature to be built. Since then, nearly 10,000 campers from across the state and beyond have enjoyed the pool.

A very special thanks to the campaign's lead donors, whose vision and leadership gifts helped us achieve this amazing outpouring of support in such a short time:

Elinor and T. W. Miller, Jr. Foundation, Inc.

The Galloway Foundation

The Kathleen and Joseph Dreyfuss Charitable Gift Fund

Mount Dora Community Trust

Thank you!

Where is Houston Rivero now?

Many of you have asked to hear from former ambassadors you used to keep up with regularly.  We talked to 2006-07 Ambassador Houston's mom Sally, and she gave an update on what's new with Houston.

Houston and Andy 2012

"Hello to all our friends at Easter Seals and thank you for checking in with Houston.

Since his graduation from the Wabasso School in Vero Beach last June, the year has been filled with transition. Weeks are filled with days where no two are alike. Mondays are a treat when Houston's friend Ellen takes him out to lunch, a few mornings are spent at the local ARC and the most special thing about this time is that his new caregiver Rich has joined the team! Rich and Houston's friendship is growing each day as Rich introduces a new adventure each time they get together.

Houston is looking forward to Camp Challenge this summer where he can share a cabin, swim with friends and scream the loudest!

See you at Camp!

Love,

Houston, Sally and Andy Rivero
