March 26, 2021
Dear Patrons,

Carmel Public Library denounces violence and racism toward Asians and Asian Americans as seen in the murder on March 16, 2021 of eight people in Atlanta, six of whom were women of Asian descent. We stand with cultural organizations everywhere speaking out against anti-Asian assaults and against all forms of racism.

We endorse the statements by the Asian/Pacific American Librarians Association and the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center on violence against Asians and Asian Americans.

As places for education, dialogue, and healing, libraries have an important role to play in countering all types of racism, xenophobia, and other kinds of bigotry including misogyny and violence against women.

Sincerely,
Your Library Staff
