Dear Upper School Families,

I hope you are having a wonderful summer! The Beaver Athletics Department is looking forward to welcoming back students as well as a talented group of veteran and new coaches to campus later this month.

We are currently gearing up for the fall season, and this email includes a lot of important information for you and all students participating in a fall sport . Please take a close look, and if you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me at .

Pre-season practices begin Monday, August 26 and continue through Friday, August 30 . Pre-season is required for all Upper School athletes participating in a fall sport. Some teams will have double sessions. Regular season practices begin on the first day of school, Tuesday, September 3.

Team placement
Decisions for placement on all varsity or junior varsity rosters will be made no later than the first week of school. Varsity and junior varsity teams have roster caps, as do all Afternoon Activities; therefore, some students will not be placed on a varsity or junior varsity team and will be encouraged to select another Afternoon Activity. Regardless of team placement, it is important to attend every practice.

More important information about pre-season
  • We must have completed health information on file for all students who plan to participate in pre-season practices. Students cannot participate in a practice without the required health forms. There will be no exceptions. If you haven't already done so, please log in to Magnus Health to complete your child's health record.
  • Lunch will be provided during pre-season week, and there will also be water on the fields at all practices. Students MUST bring their own water bottle to use throughout the season during practices and games.
  • Students are responsible for all personal equipment they need for their sport (cleats, mouth guards, shin guards, field hockey sticks, volleyball knee pads, golf clubs, etc.). We recommend a change of practice clothes for afternoon practices. In addition, students should bring their own locks to use in the locker rooms.
  • The ImPACT test is MANDATORY for all Upper School students participating in athletics every season. We use ImPACT testing as a way to monitor an athlete's return after suffering a concussion. Please have your child complete the ImPACT test at home prior to pre-season. Click here for instructions on how to take the test. Tests can only be taken after you sign and submit the consent form that will be included in the forms sent through Magnus Health.

Strength and Conditioning, Core Strength, and Spin programs
If your child is currently signed up for strength and conditioning, core strength, or spin, that program will begin Tuesday, September 3 . There is no pre-season for these activities.

Communication, schedule, and department updates
The Beaver website is your best source for all practice times and game schedules. The schedule changes frequently so be sure to check back regularly. Individual team game schedules are posted on the Athletic section of our website under Teams and Schedules.

And just a quick note: Nancy Collins, Director of Athletics, is out on maternity leave for the fall season. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me, Alex Gould, Associate Director of Athletics.

Enjoy the rest of your summer!
