"SUPERLINER" FILM TRAILER AVAILABLE NOW

A First Look at Our Documentary Film

The Conservancy is thrilled to announce that the trailer for our forthcoming feature-length documentary film, “Superliner: The Enduring Legacy of the SS United States,” is now available!

The film is directed by filmmaker Robert Radler and produced by Mark Perry who brought the acclaimed 2008 documentary "SS United States: Lady in Waiting" to life. Robbie Krieger of The Doors and Zappa's Arthur Barrow are scoring the film.

“Superliner” is targeted for release in late 2026 and will be a key attraction in the Conservancy’s future museum and visitor experience in Florida. A media release featuring the film was distributed to entertainment industry trade publications earlier this month.

THE FASTEST AND MOST BEAUTIFUL SHIP IN THE WORLD

The United Kingdom’s Daily Express spotlighted the SS United States in a recent article about the ship’s record-breaking service career and upcoming transformation to become the “world’s largest artificial reef.” Irene Richards, a former United States Lines employee who worked in the advertising and publicity department at the company’s London office, was interviewed for the piece.

While working for US Lines, her job entailed compiling lists of the ship’s high-profile passengers and occasionally guiding these celebrities from Southampton to London. Recalling the Big U, Irene shared, "she was an aristocrat, the very top of her class." To read more, click HERE

TWO RECORD BREAKING SHIPS

UK-based artist and longtime SS United States enthusiast Matthew Willis recently shared his stunning artwork depicting the hydroplane Bluebird K7 ascending on to Big U.

Bluebird K7 was a jet-powered hydroplane that carried owner Donald Campbell to victory in a 1955 speed race in England. During this race, Cambell and K7 added almost 100 miles per hour to the water speed record, setting the new speed at 275 miles per hour. An interested audience in the United States celebrated this victory, and in 1957 Campbell was invited to race in New York. Campbell traveled to the United States aboard the Big U with his daughter Gina to the competition. His hydroplane, Bluebird K7, was on this voyage as well and traveled as deck cargo.

Less than a week after their departure from Southampton, England on June 20, 1957, the racer, his daughter, and hydroplane arrived at Canandaigua Lake, NY for a much-anticipated race. While Campbell and Bluebird K7 did not set a new record in this race, Matthew was inspired to memorialize the unique meeting of two record-breaking vessels: the SS United States and Bluebird K7 through his art.
