(1) KURANDA DOG BEDS ARE NOW IN THE PRISON DOG DORM!
Not all donations are financial - we applied for and received a grant for 10 Kuranda dog beds from Animal Rescue Aid! Kuranda beds are expensive orthopedic dog beds rated as some of the best dog beds in the industry. Nothing but the best for Paws in Prison pups!

THANK YOU ANIMAL RESCUE AID!
The Cutest Critter Photo Contest was held during the month of September. The top 12 winners not only received prizes for placing, but all of them got a 2022 calendar with the top 12 winners highlighted for each month. After expenses and with additional calendar sales we netted about $2,800. Thanks to all of you who entered and voted!

Calendars are on sale for $20 (price includes taxes & shipping). To order, send an email to: merchandise@pawsinprison.com
(3) SECOND CHANCES MOBILE ART GALLERY
Phin is the lucky winner of this pet stroller donated by K9 Café. He jumped right in and couldn't wait to get his first walk.
Friends of Paws in Prison is grateful to everyone who supported the Second Chances Mobile Art Gallery Fundraiser on October 7 benefiting the Paws in Prison scholarship fund. Thanks to all of our amazing volunteers, thanks to all of you who attended the live event and thanks to all of you who participated in the virtual portion of the raffle prize drawing. Besides getting the first pick of the beautiful artwork from the talented Lockhart Prison Ladies, attendees got to view the CBS documentary about Paws in Prison. Attendees also heard the inspirational testimonial from our first scholarship recipient who recently completed dog grooming school. Here is a small sample of some of the artwork displayed and sold at the Second Chances Mobile Art Gallery.
This first piece was done by Ms. Pat. She had the most pieces to display and the most pieces that sold. Her comment was, "Without them there is no us. It's all about Love and Respect, which we all need!"
This second example, done by artist T. Rucker, was the highest priced work that sold. Ms. Rucker's statement about this inspirational art is, "I think animals are an amazing emotional support. I was honored to submit an example of "my second chance" to the dog program. I have been blessed to have grace given to me from God's sacrifice of His Son! I pray this second chance will bless His heart. Mahalo and Aloha!"
The Second Chances Art Gallery sold 14 of the 21 works of art AND your generosity raised just over $6,000. Because of all our supporters, we are

SAVING MORE THAN DOGS!
(4) MEET BRAIDEE
My name is Braidee and doesn't my face say it all! Don't ya just want to kiss me? Cuz I want to kiss you! And if my face isn't charming enough, wait until you see my wrinkles. I have plenty of skin to grow into. Not only do I love kisses but I play great with my tug toys. I'm just a young girl and I am a little nervous when I meet new dogs, but the Lockhart prison ladies are working with me and I'm growing into a wonderful family pet! I'm a boxer mix and I am only about 8 months old. I came into prison with a bunch of bug bites all over me but that is all cleared up now. I sure would love to meet you.
I had a very disturbing thing happen to me last month. This strange lump appeared on my leg, then it began to open and fester. The vet said it needed to be removed and be checked for cancer, but wow, it was going to be really expensive. Our Board of Directors unanimously approved the surgery and you know why?
Because people like you have continued to donate to Friends of Paws in Prison so we would have the funds for just such emergencies. I had the surgery and thankfully it was only a benign tumor. Recovery isn't so much fun, but I'm doing great now and when I get the all-clear, I'll be available for you to adopt me!
The Lockhart prison ladies are blown away at the continued generosity of folks like you who keep this program running with your generous donations and volunteer support. They wanted to do something to express their deep appreciation, and there are some really talented ladies there. So here is a special message to all of you from the Paws in Prison Dog Dorm in the Lockhart women's prison.
(5) A Guide to Feeding Raw Bones to Your Dog
Each month I try to send you an interesting article relating to caring for your treasured canine fur babies. Now that I have a new Paws in Prison dog named Sprout, I'm learning a lot about how some breeds need a job to do or they can get bored. One of the things that can help Sprout stay engaged and healthy is finding the right kind of bones for him to chew. Haven't you always heard not to give dogs chicken bones? Well, my internet search came up with this article written by Krystyn Janisse.

"Krystn is a passionate pet nutrition enthusiast. She has worked in the pet industry for over a decade and loves to share her passion for animal welfare with others. Your dog's safety is your first concern, and you need to know the risk in feeding raw bones just as much as the benefits."

Read on as Krystyn discusses the best raw bones for dogs.

GIVING TUESDAY

GivingTuesday is the national day of giving. It is always the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, following Black Friday, which marks the beginning of the holiday shopping season. This year, Giving Tuesday takes place on

November 30, 2021.

If this is a day that you like donating to your favorite Central Texas nonprofit, we hope you will consider Friends of Paws in Prison. You can give on our Paws in Prison Website or through "I Live Here I Give Here."
