WORKERS FIRED FROM DOMINOES FOR STANDING UP FOR A LIVING WAGE GAIN SUPPORT OF NYC COUNCIL MEMBER YDANIS RODRIGUEZ
Workers Prepared to Rally Tomorrow, Joined by Community to Fight Unjust Terminations
New York, NY--More than 20 workers from a Dominoes Pizza on 181st Street were recently terminated from their jobs after participating in a major nationwide walkout on Thursday, December 5th. This level of harassment that the workers have been subjected to after joining the fight to earn a higher wage than the under six dollars that they are currently paid, has drawn the ire of New York City Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez (D-Northern Manhattan). He stood with them at a small rally this evening outside of the storefront in solidarity with their struggle. Following this show of support, he had this to say:
"I will stand with all workers facing harassment over their courageous decision to stand up for a better wage and a better life. The thousands who stood united nationwide last Thursday have made a conscious decision to no longer settle for a wage that cannot provide for their families. This move by Dominoes Pizza wreaks of cowardice and injustice. If these multi-billion dollar multinational fast food corporations seek to continue operating in this city, they should know that we will always stand for workers' rights, supporting all who seek to improve their lives for themselves and their families. They have worked for substandard wages long enough and deserve and have earned better."
Tomorrow, Sunday, December 8th, at 12pm, the workers will return to the Dominoes Pizza at 736 West 181st Street to stand with community members and elected officials against these unjust terminations and harassment.
