Behold, now is the acceptable time; behold, now is the day of healing. 2 Cor. 6:2
Friends and Advocates,
It is time to act to protect Reproductive Freedom & the LGBTQ+ Community!
While reproductive and gender affirming care are permitted and generally accessible in Rhode Island, harassment is something that cannot be overlooked. We need to close the critical gaps in protecting healthcare data. Our concern is privacy and safety.
For many of us this has been an issue that was under our radar. Recently, we have learned that fitness apps are flagrantly sharing our health data with with third parties. We know that data from tracking devices is being shared. Medical organizations are prevented by HIPAA regulations from disclosing any sensitive data, this bill will apply these privacy restrictions on tracking and other entities.
Here is our task and our opportunity!
We need an email —Today!
We need a letter — Next week!
We need a Testimony — To Be Scheduled!
Attached is an Advocacy Tool Kit for the Data Privacy Act. It is about “Communications,” the core activity of legislative advocacy. The Slide Deck and the Video explain the process. There are also copies of the Bill and Sample Letter/Testimony.
The bills have been filed. The time to write is now. Start with an email. Next start writing a letter of support for the bill. You’re not in this alone. While you are working on this, the RISCC Social Justice Commission is available to support and assist. There will be two conversation sessions scheduled over the next two weeks. One will be held at noon on Wednesday March 4th and one at 6:00 in the evening of March 9th. If you have any questions or wish to participate: Please be in touch and a zoom link will be sent:
(socialjustice@councilofchurchesri.org)
Our experience over the years is that some legislators will respond and their comment or questions are helpful to the group. We might also help with your letter.
Blessings,
Rev. Eugene Dyszlewski
Commissioner of Social Justice
