Our growth continues!
To further efforts of supporting youth in Arizona and broaden the Adolescent Champion Model's (ACM) reach, Arizona Family Health Partnership (AFHP) created a new Adolescent Health Program Coordinator position. The Program Coordinator will partner with the Program Manager on youth-centered projects and assist in the implementation of the ACM. We are thrilled to welcome our incoming Program Coordinator, Beheir Johnson.

Beheir has a background in Public Health, specifically, human growth and development, healthy weight, and behavioral health initiatives. She believes in the power of lived experiences and storytelling, and uses this to inform her work and daily life. Beheir has been dedicated to improving the lives of children and families for 10 years. She is passionate about creating spaces where folks feel a sense of safety and belonging, in order to build and sustain healthy relationships. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with the folks she treasures, traveling, kayaking, organizing spaces, and reading.
Adolescent Health in Practice
May is #SexEdforAll Month
AFHP and the Arizona Alliance for Adolescent Health (AzAAH) are committed to ensuring youth are provided with the information and resources necessary to live healthy and fulfilling lives. That's why we partnered with SIROW on their efforts to uplift youth voices and explores the ways youth can make informed health decisions. Check out the "What If" video below to see youth empowerment in action.
Every young person deserves the right to complete and accessible sexual health care, and accurate health information. One resource we support in this work is the Sex Education Collaborative, and their month-long observance of youth empowerment.
We also join the Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Population Affairs (OPA) in observing May as National Adolescent Health Month. OPA has identified four themes to address the ways we can foster and strengthen relationships with young people, to support them and connect them to services.
Want to Reach Teens?
COMING SOON!
AFHP partnered with AHI's Teen Advisory Council and MCDPH Youth Advisory Council to assist young people in feeling confident and comfortable being their own health advocates during well visits. Adolescence can be a tough period to navigate, and young people deserve to be in spaces where they feel seen, heard, and valued. This teen guide will detail the ins-and-outs of a well visit, to ensure a positive health care experience. And the best part, youth input informed the work. Stay tuned for publication!
