Welcome Back BBQ

What a great day it turned out to be! We had around 100 people attend our first event of the year. We want to thank all the members and their guests for an amazing afternoon.

We celebrated Joseph's very special birthday. Joseph is a person who always has a smile on his face and a positive outlook on life. Happy Birthday Joseph!

Although the day started off a little gloomy, we had some great decor to cheer us up. The tennis inspired bouquet was the centre piece of the event.

Let's not forget some of our youngest members who came out to celebrate with us today. New friendships were formed while playing tennis and other fun games.

Don Arndt and Gerda Graef

This amazing event would have never been possible without Don and Gerda. Don was the BBQ King preparing the food in the rain, while Gerda was behind the decor, food prep and the amazing menu. A huge THANKS to the outstanding duo that made this day happen and fed the hungry mob of tennis players with a big smile on their faces.

Club News

New and Exciting

As our membership has almost doubled over the last four years, the Club is always looking for new ways to further enhance the overall member satisfaction. A positive member experience promotes loyalty, helps retain membership and is at the heart of every successful organization.

In order to accomplish the above, the club is introducing a Court Ambassador that will play an important role in providing additional service and communication to our members during the busy weekday prime time hours.

This initiative kicks off on Wednesday, June 15 and there will be more detailed information to follow in next week's "Tennis Weekly".

Booking Rules of the Week

(1.) The names of all people playing on court must appear on the booking, including guest players.

(2.) Players must play on the court they are booked on for the entire duration of the booking.

(3.) Using another player's name or a family member's name to save a court and bypass the prime time restrictions is NOT allowed.

Our Members

Ron Mitchell

Meet another long term member, Ron! Ron joined Credit Valley in 1967 while he was living in Toronto. In those days, it was a very long commute to Mississauga, but Ron was committed to his  tennis. Over the years, Ron has volunteered in several different positions on the Executive and the Board of Directors. The club first began receiving a city grand to help with the opening of the club when Ron was the liaison with City Hall. The club still receives this grand to this day. Ron has been instrumental in making the City realize the value of our gem of a club. Thank you Ron for the legacy you leave behind. After all these years, you can find Ron enjoying some tennis at least 3-4 times a week.

Jesse Crumb

Meet another one of our future tennis stars. Jesse is only 20 months old and already shows a huge love for all sports. He is eager to get started with tennis and is excited for next year when he can join us on the tennis courts. Jesse is a rambunctious toddler that loves airplanes, climbing and all things active. Another one of Jesse's favourite things is to play catch with his dog. Throwing the ball to Penny is one of his favourite thing to do. Jesse's dad, Don, has been an active member of the club ever since joining Credit Valley a few years ago. Jesse wants to be just like dad when he grows up and copies dad's every move. Jesse, we look forward to seeing you grow up and be a part of the Credit Valley family.

Question of the Week

To answer last week's question:

What was used for tennis before racquets were introduced?

Before tennis players used racquets, people would use the palm of their hands to hit the ball back and forth over the net. People in the 12th century suffered from swollen and red hands in a game called "jeu de plume" meaning "game of the palm". It was not until the 16th century that racquets were used.

Joke of the Week

Why are fish never good doubles players?

They don't like getting close to the net.
