A publication of the Mississippi Low-Income Child Care Initiative | April 2025

Dear Friends and Partners,

On behalf of the Child Care Matters Coalition, I want to extend my deepest thanks to each of you for showing up, speaking out, and standing strong at our “Child Care Matters: Keep Mississippi Working” press conference.

Whether you joined us as a provider, a parent, a child care advocate, a partner organization, a legislator, or a supporter—you made a difference. Your presence at the Capitol sent a powerful message: Mississippi families, children, and child care providers matter, and we will not be silent when their futures are at risk.

Because of you, we were able to:

  • Amplify the voices of working families and providers impacted by the child care certificate hold
  • Offer a real, actionable solutions
  • Launch a statewide letter-writing campaign to demand immediate action

Our three clear demands remain:

  1. Lift the hold on child care certificates
  2. Use available TANF funds to keep child care accessible
  3. Communicate transparently with families and providers moving forward

If you haven’t already, please visit www.mschildcare.org to participate in our next steps, including sending letters, sharing your story, and accessing tools to continue the fight. You'll find the sample letter, social media tool-kit, and parents flyer.

When we come together—families, providers, advocates, and policymakers—we are unstoppable. Thank you again for your courage, your energy, and your commitment to keeping Mississippi working by keeping child care strong.

With gratitude and solidarity,

Carol Burnett,

Executive Director

ABOUT MLICCI
In Mississippi, one of the biggest barriers to employment for low-income single moms is access to child care. Because we believe that no mother should have to choose between the job she needs and the child she loves, MLICCI works to improve the state’s child care assistance program and strengthen the financial viability of the child care centers that serve low-income mothers.
