A Word from Worship

Greetings New Life Church family and friends,

Here we are in beautiful April! I love this time of year when it's a little cool in the mornings and warm in the afternoon.  It makes me feel full of hope. Back home in Minnesota it's a time for late spring snowstorm and feelings of never-ending dreariness. In fairness to my home state, the summers, short as they seemed, were beautiful.  When you get to the later part of your life I think it's natural to look back and self assess where we could or should have done things differently. When I really self examine, I can think of two things I would change; to escape from a very abusive relationship when very young and of course, how I wish I had begun my prayer life much earlier.  Of course, God has a purpose for each.of us, and I realize my life happened just as it was intended. Many of you know that my challenge has been a life long series of medical problems. Some have asked why I'm not bitter or even angry about this - and I honestly answer "no" - God is so good to me, why would I be angry. I can endure just about any hardship if I know it has a purpose. During times of trials I cling to Romans 5:3-5 "We also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us." I know and will share that in my early Christian life I was a spiritual wimp. Psalm 34:19 says "The righteous person may have many troubles." It's true! But when my health problems became more severe, rather than quit, prayer helped us grow in faith. As my husband and I both grew and matured, we found that when life circumstances grew worse, we would double up on prayer and volunteer to serve on more things. God turns times of greatest trials into times of greatest growth. Hard things press us closer into God. Hopeless situations humble us. Suffering invites us to examine our lives and root out sin. As faith deepens, so does our ability to feel hopeful. We no longer doubt God's love, because the Holy Spirit in our hearts confirms it. While I don't look forward future trials, I know in confident hope that our suffering isn't useless.  I read that God never wastes pain.

I am grateful that He has used me for a purpose with prayer. Please join.our online prayer request team. You'd be surprised how many requests we receive for prayer. You can pray in the comfort of your home. Please email or call me for more info on this or other areas where you can help.

Please pray for the upcoming visits the next two Sundays when two pastor candidates will be visiting our church: one will preach on April 14 and another one on April 21. Pray also for the sick and suffering members in our church.

I'm praying for you!

Greetings from the Music Ministry

Hello New Life Church!

As ”season” starts to wind down, we will begin to miss some of our members who are heading north for the summer.  I especially want to thank the choir members who serve Christ through the music ministry here at New Life while they are with us.  Special thanks to Donna Kurst, Bill Emmons and Jan and Tom Graham.   And, of course, Mr. Peter Wright who has been splendidly playing the organ and piano for us and will be here through part of May .  We wish you and all New Life Season members safe travels and wonderful months until we meet again.

This Sunday we will hear about loving each other as Christ loves us. Wow, do we certainly fall short in this so much of the time.  I pray that the message this week will inspire and motivate us to be doers of the word and not just hearers only.  I pray we will examine our hearts for ways to love one another and to seek forgiveness when we have not acted in a loving manner.  The Bible says that people should know who Christians are by the way we love each other.  Let’s ask God to reveal to us ways to live this out in our lives and in our church.

Our Prelude and Postlude will be played by guest French Horn player, Brandon Hoagland.

Prelude:  Ave Maria by J.S Bach / Gounod and arranged by Daniel Kelly

Postlude: Swing Low, Sweet Chariot - A Spiritual arranged by Daniel Kelly

We would LOVE to add more singers to the Chancel Choir.  If you love to sing, please consider joining us.  We meet on Thursday evenings from 6-8 PM. We sing most Sunday mornings during the 9:15 service.  We have a wide variety of musicians with various backgrounds.  Please consider coming to a rehearsal to see if you would like to join us in this very fulfilling ministry.

At New Life Church, everyone in the music ministry is a worship leader.  Our aim is to...

Magnify the Greatness of God in Jesus name,

Through the Power of the Holy Spirit.

Skillfully combining God’s Word with music,

Thereby motivating NEW LIFE church to...

Proclaim the Gospel

Cherish God’s presence and

Live for God’s Glory

Our hymns this Sunday will be

#570 - Blessed Assurance

#44 - Great is Thy Faithfulness

#315 - O To Be Like Thee

Thank you to the best singing church around.  It is such a blessing each week to meet and praise God with you!  See you Sunday.

Joyfully,

MaryBeth Khamis

Interim Director of Music
