Cuba Progress

Our sister church in Taguasco has opened four new missions this year in addition to the three already worshiping and teaching. The picture shows the attendance at the newest mission. Note the large number of children. This church has found that the best way to bring adults to know Jesus is through their children. We are working on a way for these missions to come to Taguasco occasionally to attend a regular service.

A Word from Worship

Greetings New Life Church family and friends,

I am happy to be writing to you this week! As happens often in most of our lives, it's been a week of challenges. This past Friday I became aware of what I described as a little scratchy feeling in my throat. As the day wore on, I had the awful suspicion that I might have a "cold". I was concerned because of my many health issues and I know from past experiences that these things can spiral out of control in a hurry. I didn't feel terrible, which was a blessing, so out came the dreaded masks which allowed me to coordinate the memorial service we had here at church last Saturday.  By the time that was done, I had to admit that I was sick. Ugh! On top of that, Don was beginning to cough! Our weekend was really going downhill! We stayed home on Sunday, eating lots of chicken soup and going through lots of tissues and resting. As you may have heard, on Monday morning, early, Don tried to get up, but had super weak legs and seemed confused. The nurse in me immediately suspected that he was dehydrated and tried to keep him safe in bed, but his disorientated caused him to keep trying to get up. Since I unfortunately couldn't pick him up off the floor I called our grandson to come over to help me. I ended up calling an ambulance and after a brief visit to the Emergency Room, a diagnosis of influenza and three prescriptions he was back home. I'm happy to report that he began to recover quickly. While I usually wouldn't share about these personal experiences, it is a beautiful example of God's love in our lives. I wasn't sure I'd even be able to write anything this week, but I casually opened one of my books and an article titled Courage to Keep Standing; an article about God's healing power. When I think about having the flu, it doesn't seem like there's anything to feel hopeful about it. But here's how God shows Himself in my life. I've heard from several of you with offers of help and prayers. Our family has been here for us including beautiful, loving messages from our granddaughters including those who don't go to church. Imagine how my heart swelled to hear their words "Grandma I'm praying for you and Grandpa!" This is such a gift of hope from our Lord. He always gives me the courage to keep standing in spite of what struggles I'm going through. He has taught me that no matter what I'm going through  I can lean into Him. No matter how many times I've prayed for something, I pray again. We must keep fighting. Whether our miracle comes through a divine touch of healing or a promise of prayer from beautiful, loving

young women, the safest place to find hope is in prayer to our Lord and Savior.

Thank you for your prayers!

I'm praying for you!

Greetings from the Music Ministry

Hello New Life Church!

Years ago I read a great book that I keep going back to and highly recommend. The title is NOT A FAN, by Kyle Idleman. The question that he posed is, are you a Fan of Jesus or a Follower? It really stretches the reader to diagnose where they find themselves and to define their relationship with Jesus. Are we like most fans, enthusiastic admirers, that are good at cheering but don’t really live as if anything is required of us? Are we fans of Jesus when life is good, but when things are really difficult and painful our passion wanes? Do we know all the verses and have all the t-shirts and bumper stickers, but not really sacrifice anything? Are we taking up our crosses daily to walk with Him or just riding a denominational or cultural heritage with which we like to associate? Have we made a decision about Jesus but not a commitment to Him? Do we have knowledge of Him but not intimacy with Him? Do we strive to follow Jesus or just follow rules? Are we living in a self-empowered manner, or are we Spirit-filled? Being an “enthusiastic admirer” is not an option. Following Jesus is a TOTAL surrendering of your life to Him. It is an open-invitation to everyone. Let’s all spend time examining our relationship with Jesus this week and asking Him to show us how to be true Followers of Christ.

Matthew 16:24 - Then Jesus said to His disciples, “if anyone would come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross and follow Me.”

Matthew 7:21-22 - “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one that does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name cast out demons, and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will say to them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Depart from Me, you evildoers.”

Our Anthem this week, “Follow Me to Jordan,” is in the style of a spiritual and was written by Jay Althouse. It has simple words that remind us to Follow Jesus!! It reminds us that if we follow Him it will lead us to our promised land - eternal life with Him.

Anthem Words for this week

Follow me to Jordan, follow me on home

Follow me to Jordan, follow me all the way home

I will follow King Jesus, I’ll wait for His command

Everyday He will show me the way

Until I reach the promised land . . . . He said

Follow me to Jordan, follow me on home

Follow me to Jordan, follow me all the way home

I will follow King Jesus, for now and evermore

Everyday He will show me the way

Until we reach that heavenly shore . . . . He said

Follow me to Jordan, follow me on home

Follow me to Jordan, follow me all the way home

I’m going home, I’m going home
