New Bible Study, "God in You"

Larry Keller will begin a new study by Dr. David Jeremiah on the Holy Spirit on September 6. The study will meet Wednesday evenings 6:30 - 8:00 pm in Room 13. The study will continue every Wednesday night until finished.

Study guides are available on David Jeremiah's website for $10 each.

Halloween 2023

Planning has begun for Halloween and we need your help! Halloween is a tremendous opportunity to connect with new families as literally thousands of all ages descend on downtown Punta Gorda on October 31. This year we will be offering a “Fall Harvest Party” with food trucks, music, and an area for families to rest during the evening.

Stay tuned for more details on how you can get involved with setup, cleanup, and hospitality during the event.

Christian Service in Action

Barbara Pennington, Michael Bell, and Sheri Anderssen are three youth meal ministry volunteers who faithfully provide a meal on Sundays for our teens in youth group and for our elementary age children in the Connect Children’s ministry. The students absolutely love the “Nacho Night” meal, in particular! The adult leaders and students would like to express our sincere appreciation to these individuals for their faithful service to us.

Additional helpers are needed! If you would consider being a youth meal ministry volunteer for one or two Sundays a month, it would be greatly appreciated by all those involved in the teen and children’s ministries.

A Note from the Scholarship Committee

Thank You! – Our scholarship recipients send their gratitude and appreciation. As you read segments of their expressions of gratitude, please consider giving a donation to the scholarship fund through the Birthday Box. Birthday Boxes are located in the Life Center foyer, the foyer of the Sanctuary, and in the church office lobby.

Ella (Hinchman) Mariano – Thank you for the scholarship. Without this help, I would not have been able to go to YWAM (Youth With A Mission). I am forever grateful!

Catalina Mosquera – The scholarship funds I have received from New Life in Christ Church over the past three years have been instrumental in my success at the University of Miami. Words cannot describe how truly grateful I am for the sponsorship from the church and for the opportunities I have been able to take advantage of as a result.

Contemporary Service, 10:45 am Sundays

If you arrive early for the 10:45 service, please note that doors will open for seating after 10:20 am. The Praise Band is working on sound set-up, checks prior to that time. Thank you for your understanding!

Coffee and Donuts are available in Lenox Hall for fellowship before or after all of our Sunday services.

Operation Christmas Child

Our 12-months of Christmas collecting for our Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Ministry continues with a request for the following items: Washcloths, bars of soap, hair ties & scrunchies, headbands, combs and barrettes. Filler items of matchbox cars, balls, jump ropes and other toys are also welcome.

Music Ministry Updates

Greetings Everyone,

Labor Day is almost upon us! The Fall season is a great time to consider joining the Chancel Choir and Chancel Ringers. After Labor Day, the choirs will begin working on music for Christmas, so this is a perfect time for new folks to join us.

Bell Choir Rehearsals Resume – September 6 at 6:00 PM (Historic Sanctuary)

On September 6, 2023, the Chancel Ringers will be resuming handbell rehearsals on Wednesday evenings at 6:00 PM in the Historic Sanctuary. If you have been sitting on the sidelines now is a great time to join the handbell choir. This is a wonderful group of people who enjoys their time of music-making, fellowship, and prayer. The ability to read music is necessary. Contact David Bellows for more information:

The Chancel Ringers will resume rehearsals on September 6, 2023, at 6:00 PM.

The Chancel Choir rehearses on Thursdays at 6:00 PM in the Historic Sanctuary and

sings Sundays at the 9:15 AM Service. The Chancel Choir is open to anyone interested

– no audition is necessary.

A Word from Worship

Greetings New Life Church family and friends -

I want to thank everyone for your cooperation at the 10:45 am Contemporary Service and for waiting to enter the Life Center until the Praise Group has finished with their sound checks and rehearsals. I realize there is not much time between the dismissal of the 8 o'clock service and the start of the 9:15 service. It is far too hot to wait outside until the sanctuary is open so please remember that Lenox Hall is open and available for a doughnut and fellowship while you wait to enter.

Please be sure to check The Bridge for information about upcoming events and activities, and areas where you might be able to serve. Remarkably, the busy fall season is right around the corner and we don't want you to miss out on anything.

I want to share an interesting and uplifting experience I had recently. I am always trying to quiet myself during prayer times so I am aware of God's guidance. Sometimes are easier than others but when I am going through a troubling time, I know I need to let go of the old me way of trying to figure out solutions. I now pray and thank Jesus that as my Savior I no longer have to be the hopeless and insecure person I used to be. God gives each of us a purpose or calling to show us how we can best serve Him. Despite our personality, and our flaws, God is ready to use us just as we are. Because we are made by Him, our purpose is natural and how we were designed. When I doubt myself, I remind myself of: Philippians 4:13 ,"I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength." It helps me to get rid of my self-doubt and embrace my overflowing love for God. So last week when questioning my worth and reviewing these things, God shared with me several blessings; a beautiful testimonial tribute by a fellow church member about the power of prayer in my life; and an opportunity to record another month of devotionals on iHeart Radio and several emails from you, my church family, asking me to pray for a loved one. I am truly blessed. Please join us on Thursdays at noon in the sanctuary to hear others share about finding their purpose through prayer.
