by Myrt Creigh, Former Lay Leader and servant of Christ
Recently I have been surprised to learn that there are those in our midst that, because of the new church’s name, we are no longer Methodist. Really? New Life in Christ Church is most certainly Methodist. We’re not United Methodist but we are Wesleyan Methodist… what does that mean, you ask. Do you remember why we disaffiliated? We wanted to remain rooted in the biblical teachings of Jesus Christ…do you know what John Wesley’s theology is?
See that’s the problem. Most people say they have belonged to such-and-such denomination all their lives but when you question them about their denomination’s theological beliefs…they can’t tell you. I was very guilty of this years back. For 50+ years I was a Presbyterian and never knew that Calvin’s theology was rooted in predestination. I don’t believe in the predestination concept as Calvin taught but there I was…a Presbyterian.
So I guess my question is do you know what the John Wesley theological teachings are? I can tell you when I became a member I didn’t make the mistake of not checking this time. In today’s technical world it is very easy to find out…. Google it!! You will be amazed at what you’ll find.
Does a name define who we are? No! I love our church’s new name…New Life in Christ Church. For me Christ comes first, last, and forever! I’m so proud to be a Methodist because of the grace and love we have through the Holy Spirit. Let’s come out of our home cocoons and reawaken our relationship with Christ in the Wesley Methodist tradition and glorify His name…I know I have.
Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart." Psalm 119:2

Greetings New Life Church family --
We will again have name tags available at each of our three services this Sunday. If you have not yet ordered , please check the website, or check with a greeter at the entrance for help with ordering. We encourage everyone to wear a nametag - it really does help with learning names.
As we approach September, start watching The Bridge and/or the announcements for upcoming events or Bible studies. Joining a small group or Bible study is a great way to become part of this great church family and have the opportunity to share experiences of others who might be having similar struggles as you. One thing on the upcoming schedule is an informational meeting on Saturday, 8/27/22 @ 1030am in Lenox Fellowship Hall. This is open to everyone who is willing to help or learn more about our Welcome Team which will serve during Sunday worship services. The duties are easy; smile, be friendly, welcome folks, answer basic questions etc. The blessings are huge! Please come and check it out. We will have refreshments and light treats. Please let me or Pastor Angela know if you have questions. Service and prayer are two of the best ways to develop our strengths in our faith walk. We all have many abilities and gifts that God has given us to help others. It's called ministry, and we might not even know what we're good at unless we try things out.1Cor. 12-7 God has given each of you some special abilities. Be sure to use them to help each other, passing on to others God's many kinds of blessings. NJB. Please pray and consider this important ministry.
Don't forget that the Prayer Room is open for prayer times. You can sign up for available times online. The Thursday Prayer group is open for anyone who would like time to pray or share experiences or even like to be prayed for. Check us out any Thursday at 12 noon in the sanctuary. Maybe you'd just like to come to thank God;
*for guidance on difficult matters
*,for the hope you feel
* for good health of you and your family
*for His mercy and kindness
*for His faithfulness - He's always there
*for listening and answering prayers
Prayer and praise go hand in hand. I don't always get the exact result or answer I expect when I pray for a need or a problem, but it's always the best answer, and I am always blessed. Sometimes I was told to keep praying. That's why prayer with a partner helps give you encouragement to keep going. Jesus told his disciples to always pray and not give up. Partners in prayer help each other when things get tough; you always have someone there to encourage you. Eccl. 4:12 "Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves."
Keep on praying! I'm praying for you!

Women of Faith started during the pandemic as an offshoot of Extraordinary Women for those who couldn’t do Zoom or simply wanted an in person outdoor Bible study. We were known as EW 2.0 until recently. We meet on Wednesday mornings from 9:30-11:00, usually under the Royal Poinciana tree on the west side of the parking lot. However, during the heat of the summer and in case of inclement weather during the winter, we meet in classroom 9.
We started in April of 2020 with just three women, but through the Lord’s blessing, we have grown so significantly that this summer we have become a separate Bible study from EW and hence the new name. We are finishing up our current study of the book of Acts on August 24th and will begin a new study of Romans on August 31st. If you are interested in more information on the group or would like to order the study guide for Romans, please contact Elise Gowan at (941) 286-3943. There is an open place just waiting for you. Please come join us!

Beginning Sunday, August 14th at 10:30 a.m. in Lenox Hall, The Harmony Class will begin a five-week study of “The Shortest Way Home: C.S. Lewis & Mere Christianity”. Doubt and disbelief live in the hearts of many people as they wrestle with the questions of good and evil and the existence of God. Those who embrace Christianity as a way of life must then learn how to live out their faith as a transformed individual in an imperfect and difficult world. But how is this accomplished? Please join us to find out! Class materials will be provided for all participants. All are welcome to attend!

Extraordinary Women - Begins August 18
|
|
Extraordinary Women is a Zoom Women’s Bible Study Group which meets every Thursday from 9:00-11:00 am. Brenda Allen is the group facilitator. EW Zoom is for all
women who enjoy learning about the Bible and how it applies to their life.
If you find it difficult or impossible to come to the church for a small group meeting, please consider joining us on Zoom. We have members who are out of town for the summer and want to stay connected to a small group. If you are the caregiver for someone who can’t be left alone our group may be the perfect way for you to participate in a small group. Do you like to stay at home and dress casually (that means shorts and no makeup)? EW Zoom is the group for you.
We are a very welcoming group, so please come and visit us. We are currently using the
Journey Through the Bible series and are presently studying Acts. We will start our study
of Romans on August 18. If you would like a book please contact Jan Armbrust at 941-
268-5967 or Sharon Voss at 941-639-1506. Contact Brenda Allen for the Zoom link at
941-286-2244.

“Paul: A Biography”
Paul is a compelling modern biography that reveals the apostle's greater role in Christian history—as an inventor of new paradigms for how we understand Jesus and what he accomplished—and celebrates his stature as one of the most effective and influential intellectuals in human history.
