A Word from Worship
Greetings New Life Church family and friends,
To tell you that the past couple of weeks have been chaotic, scary, and difficult in so many ways would sound like a nightmare and in many ways it was. But, as always in the midst of bad stuff happening, God continues to show us blessings.
I truly feel bad if I can't get an article written for The Bridge and it's my way of keeping in touch and sending my thanks and love to you all. I was communicating with Pastor Casey and assured him that this church family is without a doubt the best there is. I thank you again for your loving and uplifting cards and notes and the messages of encouragement arrive at just the most needed moment! I can't tell you how much the Meal Train has helped us. I knew that I was already extremely tired and since the puzzling drastic weight loss had occurred, I've had no appetite (weird isn't it?!) so cooking healthy or any meals for Don would be very hard or impossible.
Thank you from my heart.
Here's the update:
Don finished his recent cycle of two weeks of oral chemo meds a couple of weeks ago with no problems at all. On the last day, he began to feel like he was getting an upset stomach and for three straight nights, we had no sleep while he had intermittent annoying vomiting, etc. Of course, it started on the weekend- doesn't it always - and by Monday we were advised to go ER. Any of you who have been through this, know that this leads to numerous tests and procedures. Don had complained that it felt like something was stuck in his throat and after a couple of days a scope of his throat and esophagus showed ulceration down the whole way and he couldn't even sip water. His BP dropped and he ended up in Cardiac Critical Care and for two plus weeks he's been learning how to swallow safely and now can again eat soft food. It's been quite a journey, but we had several moments of sharing prayer with the nursing staff and I was able to give his nurses pocket prayer stones. I was terrified at how sick he was, but as God encouraged me to give my fear to him and receive these blessings of faith instead; it reminded me that in my weakness, our God is mighty. As most of you probably know, our oncologist has been questioning and testing me to discover the reason for my weight loss. Imagine my shock, and hers also when they discovered that I also have cancer. I have a malignant tumor in my right lung. This of course has added more appointments, tests, and schedules that are crazy. I was most worried about how I would be able to care for Don if I was sick, but again we were blessed by our Heavenly Father and I began radiation
treatment today. This course of intense radiation will be short and other than more fatigue I'm sure I'll be fine. We both thank you for your prayers and support for us both. I am blessed that Don is back home with me and working on recovery from this setback. Thank you for loving us and we love each of you for your ongoing prayers.
I'm praying for you!
