Oxhandler who is an Associate Professor and Associate Dean at Baylor University. Holly has written a book for caregivers everywhere, in every role, who sense the sacred spark within them saying, in effect: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Her book is titled The Soul of the Helper. Fifth Sunday Offering - January 29
|
|
We will be collecting our 5th Sunday offering for the Florida United Methodist Children's Home next Sunday, January 29th. The Children's Home provides a family environment for children in the foster system, as well as those in dire family situations. Offering a place with house parents, counseling and educational support, the Home allows children to feel some sort of normal in their day to day life. Envelopes will be available on the tables provided in the Life Center and in the Sanctuary. Please prayerfully consider a donation to help the Home not only provide a place to call home, but a family for these children in need.

Everything we believe in the Christian faith is based on the fact that a man predicted his own death and resurrection—and pulled it off! Jesus is the reason for everything we do.
At the same time, most of what we know about Him comes from the Bible.
So, if you want to know Him more, begin with reading Scripture.
You will find two plans to help you do this. The first is a 5 x 5 x 5 New Testament reading plan. If you will spend 5 minutes a day, reading one chapter a day for 5 days, you will read the entire New Testament during 2023.
The second plan follows a similar structure: 5 days a week, but closer to 10 to 15 minutes of reading during those days. With this plan, you will read the entire Bible in 2023.
If you are not already reading the Bible intentionally, I want to encourage you to choose one of the recommended plans. The New Testament 5 x 5 x 5 is a good entry into Scripture.
You will find links here to download either (or both) to your computer, phone, etc:

Our first mission trip to Cuba in more than three years will leave on Friday, January 27 to visit our sister church in Taguasco and the four missions that we support. We will be able to carry a single checked bag on the plane. We need to fill that bag with over the counter medicines such as aspirin, cough drops, and antibiotic ointment. There is a box on the mission table in Lenox Hall to receive your medicine gifts. There is a list on the box of the most needed items if you need some ideas. No liquids. Expiration date must be beyond February 2024. No prescription drugs.
Additionally, we can take in our carry on luggage the following: Iphone 5 or newer, Ipad, and laptop. All must have 110v charging adapter, for when electricity is available. Call if you have one to donate.
Questions can be directed to Tom Little, 941-769-0002.

Greetings New Life Church family --
I sit here tonight, wondering how I can possibly write anything that could possibly make sense. This latest health journey has certainly been interesting. Like a roller coaster ride -- up one minute and down the next. Most of the time feelings of gratitude and then tears of frustration-- you know those times when our human nature takes over and we think we can figure out how to get through things faster, easier maybe better!?... And then I gather up a couple of devotionals and they fall open to topics like "Choose Joy" and "Shout for Joy" and more. I know these things but when you're struggling with pain, medication side effects and feelings of frustration, it's helpful to reach out for help. The best and perfect place to seek encouragement and help is our Heavenly Father. I try to be joyful always by remembering that He loves me always and in all circumstances. Isaiah 54:10 says "Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed ". Another way to increase Joy is to give thanks in all circumstances, no matter what. Even during the worst of times, I try to find things for my gratitude list each day. Sometimes we pray without expecting much of a response. Even though we may have prayers that haven't been answered yet, continue to give those requests to God., knowing that He is listening, though sometimes the answer might be different than we were expecting. Our Father has promised us joy; mentioned over 250 times in the Bible. When we are suffering, we can choose joy- it will probably be the strength we need. Here's a few thoughts when you are hurting; make a friend, help a neighbor ( maybe bake cookies for them,) pay for a stranger's coffee, etc. Choose Joy- it's helped me.
You're invited to join our Thursday prayer group next Thursday 1/26 @ 12oclock for a prayer walk around our campus. We will be praying for all of the Bible studies, classes or small groups, as well as buildings such as Bargain Boutique for a successful 2023. Keep on praying! I'm praying for you!
