Fifth Sunday Offering this Sunday
We will be collecting our 5th Sunday offering for the Florida United Methodist Children's Home on Sunday, January 29th. The Children's Home provides a family environment for children in the foster system, as well as those in dire family situations. Offering a place with house parents, counseling, and educational support, the Home allows children to feel some sort of normal in their day-to-day life. Envelopes will be available on the tables provided in the Life Center and in the Sanctuary. Please prayerfully consider a donation to help the Home not only provide a place to call home, but a family for these children in need.
Men's Fellowship & Breakfast - February 18
The Men will be meeting on Saturday, February 18th at 8:00 am in Lenox Hall. Tom Parker will be our speaker. He recently joined Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) as the lead person and will be talking about his new role and vision for reaching youth. Tom was previously the Area Director for Young Life. A Continental Breakfast and beverages will be provided. There is no charge for this event, but please RSVP by Thursday, February 16th below or email Wayne Sharp: sharpww@me.com.
Church Library News
During the post Hurricane Ian weeks, like many spaces on the church property, our church library was occupied by the inspiring members of the Samaritan's Purse volunteers. We found a pile of books to shelve after they vacated our property and were so happy with the thought that after long days of service to our community, a mystery reader(s) found entertainment and/ or solace in our collection!

WE ARE NOW OPEN to church visitors, members, and staff! Please stop in and pick up a book or two. Please see the new catalog folder that contains a paper list of our books collection. This catalog is a work in progress. Our volunteers are back on some Tuesdays mornings working to complete this ongoing project.

We noticed our "Heaven " topic shelf is a little light and is missing the Randy Alcorn "Heaven" book. If you own a lightly used copy, please consider donating this book to the library.

If you are new to our church, you can find our church library in the Life Center building ! If you need assistance regarding the library, please email shelbydecapite@yahoo.com.

2023 Bible Reading Plans
bible-candle.jpg
Everything we believe in the Christian faith is based on the fact that a man predicted his own death and resurrection—and pulled it off! Jesus is the reason for everything we do.

At the same time, most of what we know about Him comes from the Bible.

So, if you want to know Him more, begin with reading Scripture.

You will find two plans to help you do this. The first is a 5 x 5 x 5 New Testament reading plan. If you will spend 5 minutes a day, reading one chapter a day for 5 days, you will read the entire New Testament during 2023.

The second plan follows a similar structure: 5 days a week, but closer to 10 to 15 minutes of reading during those days. With this plan, you will read the entire Bible in 2023.

If you are not already reading the Bible intentionally, I want to encourage you to choose one of the recommended plans. The New Testament 5 x 5 x 5 is a good entry into Scripture.

You will find links here to download either (or both) to your computer, phone, etc:
Contribution Envelopes
Our first quarter New Life Church contribution envelopes are delayed but will be arriving soon. You may still give by placing your check in the offering plate and you will receive credit for your offering.

A Word from Worship
Greetings New Life Church family --

Here we are at the end of January already.  I have done infusions seven days a week since December 22 - but who's counting?! One of the blessings of this forced downtime was additional prayer and reading. It's hard to get too distracted when you're tethered to an IV pole. Seriously,  it was a gift to delve deeper into God's word and learn how to rest in God's presence. Usually, when a tragedy strikes, our reaction is to tell someone else, which we also do when we receive good news. Of course, we learn that there will never be a situation or circumstance when God is not with us. He has promised to be our help and our hope. He has promised to get us through whatever happens. He has a plan for us and it's good.  We can trust Him to complete His purpose for our lives because He loves us. Deuteronomy 31:8 "Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; He will neither fail you nor abandon you."

When I'm struggling, I often find myself slipping back into old habits of prayer- then feeling like I need to figure out solutions if things don't resolve soon enough. When anxiety builds, I quickly realize I haven't truly been listening. I've learned that God's time isn't necessarily my time. But each time I face adversity or even discouragement I better understand that God will provide exactly what I need when I need it. Proverbs3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight." I believe that through these difficult life events, God is training us to come to Him in times of trouble and in times of joy. It gives me great hope to seek Him in prayer and be willing to wait for His solution.  We may not know how or when He will answer us, but we can keep putting our hearts before Him in prayer. We need to keep seeking, keep trusting, keep asking, and keep praying.
I'm praying for you!

Rosie Young
Worship Coordinator
