A Note of Thanks from Pastor Bob
|
|
Thank you so much for all of your kind comments and best wishes upon my (semi) retirement. And thank you for the generous gifts. The Retirement Party on June 23 was more than I could have possibly imagined. I was repeatedly roasted and honored. What a night. My wife, Sue, and our three grandsons, Daniel, Andrew and Christopher enjoyed it very much.
I am the one who owes you a great deal of thanks. It has been such a privilege to serve this congregation. There is no church where I would rather be.
Visiting people during their difficult times is what I am called to do. Please let me know if I can assist you or someone else, whether in the hospital, rehab, nursing home, assisted living or in their home. As the minister of pastoral care at New Life Church, I want to continue sharing the love of God with everyone I can.
With love and appreciation for all of you,
Pastor Bob Carlson

Greetings New Life For Christ Church family!
Happy 4th of July, and blessed new beginnings! We have much to celebrate and much to be thankful for. I hope everyone will join us this Sunday in the Life Center, at 10am for worship. We will of course celebrate communion and enjoy a mix of traditional and contemporary music. It is our first opportunity to welcome our new Associate Pastor, Angela Hinchman and her family. Be sure to dress in casual attire, as we'll enjoy a picnic lunch following worship. A special thank-you to Joey, staff and volunteers who will be working hard cooking, setting up and taking down all the tables and chairs. They work hard and deserve an extra pat on the back!
As you know, we are now officially the New Life in Christ Church, and we have already had some very humorous mistakes when trying to answer the phones with our new name. So please be patient with us as we all readjust to new things. For those who have asked -- new name tags will be coming.
I had the honor this past week to pray for someone having surgery, and also someone having questions about how to pray. I am not an expert but I have been led on this prayer journey over several years by my pastors and by listening to my Lord and Savior. I read something by C.S. Lewis that said; "I pray because I can't help myself. I pray because I'm helpless. I pray because the need flows out of me all the time, waking and sleeping. It doesn't change God. It changes me." I began my prayer life by reciting prayer words out of a book. As I got older, I got distracted saying the same things over and over. I couldn't stay focused and my mind wandered. Over time I found myself in greater need and began reaching out for guidance. This gradually taught me that the Holy Spirit wants to teach us to pray and show us that it's not as complicated as we try to make it. God does not look for perfect words, I believe He just wants our hearts. At times when I've been in my worst pain, especially during the dark of night , I can only manage the simplest of prayers; " Jesus, help me". I read somewhere that the name, Jesus, is used casually, or even as a curse word, but really is the name we can call on in the best of times and in the worst of times. For me, it's a source of peace. No matter what we're facing that prayer "Help me
Jesus" can be used anywhere, any time, any place or in any situation.
Have a safe and blessed weekend! I'm praying for you!
