There’s a small book that I’ve read several times I’d like to share with you. It’s entitled Journey to the New Jerusalem - A Study of the Second Coming of Christ by Tommy C. Higle. Available on Amazon or Journey series.

For years I’ve studied the book of Revelation and have been intrigued how John was lead by Jesus to write the end times prophecy. I remember when Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins came out in 1995 with the Left Behind series. There were 13 books in the series and the first two were published immediately but the others stretched out over time. My son, Rich and I were reading the series and could not wait until the next book came out….the final book came in 2007. So you see it was over a 12 year period…no wonder we were impatient!

Since Tim LaHaye’s passing in 2016 other pastors have picked up on his quest to bring the prophecy to the world. As a side note, Jerry Jenkins was the writer for the series while Tim LaHaye brought the biblical scriptures to the forefront. What’s interesting is Jenkins is the father of Dallas Jenkins who produces The Chosen series. I think it’s amazing how God has used these two men to bring scripture alive and real to the rest of the world through literature and film.

Paul Lalonde (Cloud Ten Pictures) has produced the Left Behind (film series) starring Kirk Cameron. It can be found on YouTube. If the book of Revelation peaks your curiosity give it a look.

Scholarship Committee Update

Thank You! – Our scholarship recipients send their gratitude and appreciation. As you read segments of their expressions of gratitude, please consider giving a donation to the scholarship fund through the Birthday Box. Birthday Boxes are located in the Life Center foyer, the foyer of the Sanctuary, and in the church office lobby.

Sydney Browne writes, “I have been in awe of the endless support I received from New Life in Christ Church. Just as I strived to support the church through volunteering, youth group, and mission trips in my youth, New Life in Christ has helped me in countless ways ranging from personalized care packages to financial support through the Dieffenwierth Memorial Scholarship award. I am incredibly fortunate to have received this scholarship in the past, which has had a monumental impact on my educational journey.”

Randy Buck writes, “I cannot express enough my thankfulness for the unwavering support the church has provided me thus far. Thanks to your generosity, I was able to graduate Cum Laude from a challenging program and received the first-place prize in my competitive senior capstone project. The church’s support has empowered me to surpass my own expectations and achieve milestones I never thought possible.”

Music Ministry Updates

Greetings Everyone,

A note about the Prelude and Postlude music this week:

Louis Vierne (1870 - 1937) was a French organist and prominent composer in the French Organ Symphony school, which had started with Cesar Franck and Charles Marie Widor. Vierne maintained an active career concertizing, teaching, composing and serving as organist of Notre Dame de Paris despite being legally blind. The prelude “Berceuse” is French word for “Lullaby” and is dedicated to his daughter. The postlude “Carillon de Westminster” is probably one of his most recognizable works for organ based on the famous Westminster chime tune.

Curious about joining the Chancel Choir…consider singing with us during the Summer months. We won’t be robing, rehearsals will be shorter and we have some great music planned.

Music Ministry Opportunities:

The Chancel Ringers will resume rehearsals on September 6, 2023 at 6:00 PM.

The Chancel Choir rehearses on Thursdays at 6:00 PM in the Historic Sanctuary and sings Sundays at the 9:15 AM Service. The Chancel Choir is open to anyone interested – no audition is necessary.

A Word from Worship

Greetings New Life Church family --

Well the record heat continues, but here's a thought that might cool you off for a second or two - we've begun talking and planning for Christmas! Remember how cold it was last Christmas Eve? While it doesn't help to relieve the high temperature, it's a reminder to read the Bridge, and check the Church app and announcements for upcoming events and opportunities to serve. We pray for problems that confront us or our loved ones, and things we're hoping to accomplish but as I've been trying to work on my prayer life, I'm deeply aware of expressing more gratitude to God. Every day is our chance to celebrate the life God has given us. It's our chance to give thanks to our Heavenly Father who gives us more blessings than we can count, beginning with the precious gift of life. Sometimes the demands of life make us forget to slow down and offer Him our thanks and praise. Colossians 3:15 says "Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts.... And be thankful." The says "in everything give thanks." No matter what happens we need to have a spirit of thankfulness for every blessing- even when we think things go wrong. God knows better than we do what is best for us. We should thank Him even when He says "No" or even "Wait". His answer is always perfect. I am learning that when I begin each day thanking God for the gift of it, things go so much better.

Please join us on Thursdays at noon in the sanctuary to share more with others about prayer tips. All are welcome.

Be sure and read the Bridge for important Church happenings!

Have a blessed and beautiful week. I'm praying for you!
