Picnic Volunteers Needed

Joey DePetro, joey@newlifeforall.church

If you are able to volunteer on July 2, we will have 3 opportunities: set-up, serving and cleanup. The setup will begin at 8 am Sunday morning, serving from 10 am until all have eaten, and clean up at the end of our celebration. Thank you in advance!

Church Prints Available

When stopping by the church office, you may have noticed a beautiful watercolor painting of our church on display. We have 5x7 and 11x14 prints of the painting that will be available at our Celebration Picnic on July 2! Suggested donation amounts are $5 for the 5x7, and $20 for the 11x14. Proceeds will be used for hurricane repairs and any future campus improvements.

Harmony Class - New Study

Sunday Mornings, 9:15 in Lenox Hall

On Sunday July 9th at 9:15 in Lenox Hall, the Harmony Class will begin a new, 8-session study, "Courage To Conquer" by Dr. David Jeremiah.  As Dr. Jeremiah looks at some of the Bible's greatest heroes - David, Paul, Joshua, Habakkuk, Isaiah, and three young Hebrew men who stared down one of history's most notorious kings - he explains how they managed to conquer with courage. Everyone will encounter fear, loneliness, frustration, confusion, disappointment, and weakness in this life. But only those with courage from God - the Courage to Conquer - will be victorious. Everyone is welcome to attend. Study materials will be provided.

Shoes for Kids Collection

We are partnering again this summer with the Kiwanis “Shoes for Kids” project. The purpose of “Shoes for Kids” is to provide new tennis shoes to any student in Charlotte County which needs them to begin the new school year, or throughout the academic year. Approximately 75% of the shoes are delivered to the Elementary Schools. You can drop off your donations of new shoes to the collection box located in Lenox Hall. The collection will run through July 24th.

Cuba Progress

Tom Little

While we were in Cuba discussing with District Superintendent Yamel pastor training, he recognized Pastor Ron from our Guaro sister church for teaching Seminary for the last four years. District Seminary is a requirement for any new minister for two years before they go to a formal seminary in Havana for the last two years. He said that there was no food for the whole Saturday of the Seminary and that student pastors often had to come the day before and go home the day after without eating. The cost of providing food for the next year for seminary is $600. The Bargain Boutique came up with the funds and Pastor Brightly from the Fort Ogden Community Church will take the funds to Cuba next week.

In preparation for our trip, we cushioned some electronic equipment with "costumes." When we unpacked, Maribel, Pastor Ron's wife, told us that they had been praying for dancing costumes for their teenage girls to wear as they danced in the services. We did not know why these costumes were given to us, but God does. It brought great joy to our Cuban friends in a country where there are real problems.

The response to our 2-minute video about our sister church in Guaro was substantial. If you missed church last week or if you want to see it again or have a friend watch it, you can view it here:

Appalachian Strings

Cathy Smith

The APPALACHIAN STRINGS, under the direction of Cathy Smith, casual fiddler, meets in Room 13 on our church campus every Tuesday from 9:30-11:00 am. Come join us!

We welcome all acoustic instruments like the dulcimer, ukulele, guitar, violin, and many more. We are a very casual, not professional, group of beginners, experienced, and once-in-a-while players that just love to play music! We have music to start, so dust off your instruments and join us! We have several that don’t read music and play by ear. If that is you, don’t hesitate to come. Many songs are very familiar.

A Word from Worship

Greetings New Life Church family --

Well summer is officially here but here in Florida we knew that without a calendar! I read an article about how we place plants in sunny windows to encourage growth. Because the plant receives energy from the sun it grows toward that direction. While humans don't do that, I thought about how we follow Jesus to get nourishment for our souls. When we slack off and don't make time to meet with God. We are deprived of that life-giving nourishment that we need to keep our hearts healthy. I have found that an easy way to make this happen is to pray, of course, and to focus on kindness. Life is so busy, responsibilities are demanding, and most of us can't add one more thing. But kindness is easy to share, and blessings abound. What prompted this topic was an incident that occurred during our recent week of VBS. It was discovered that a family needed much help because of life struggles and within a couple days they had almost all they needed to set up their new living arrangements. I've heard many folks who knew about this talk of how amazing this church of followers of Jesus is. Being kind like Jesus can change our whole perspective on life. It's not hard, it's responding to someone with mercy, without any expectations.

Ephesians 1:8 "He has showered His kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding."

I found this to share:

K: Keep your eyes on Jesus

I: Immerse yourself in the Word

N: Navigate life from a heavenly perspective

D: Desire God's best for all people

N: Nudge your spirit to act

E: Encourage those around you

S: Serve others above yourself

S: Share the love of Jesus

Let's all be a hug, and an extended hand for others. Make a call to a loved one who you haven't talked with for awhile, or check on someone you haven't seen in church for awhile. Take time to listen when a friend needs to talk, even when your to-do list is very long. Take cookies to a lonely neighbor - better yet, meet your neighbors! Leave an anonymous prayer note for your server where you eat! We never know what a heavy load someone is living with and a small act of Christian kindness can make a difference.  And above all - offer to pray. This is a wonderful church family and I know we can make a difference. Prayer is a powerful gift to give away!

Don't forget our church picnic on July 2nd! One worship service at 10am with food and lots of fun to follow! Invite your friends and neighbors! That's a great way to show kindness!

I'm praying for you!
