Church Prints Available

When stopping by the church office, you may have noticed a beautiful watercolor painting of our church on display. We have 5x7 and 11x14 prints of the painting that will be available at our Celebration Picnic on July 2! Suggested donation amounts are $5 for the 5x7, and $20 for the 11x14. Proceeds will be used for hurricane repairs and any future campus improvements.

Praise in the Park

Our 8 am Gilchrist Park service, "Praise in the Park" will relocate to the sanctuary beginning Sunday, July 9. We will move back to the park when the summer heat and rainy season have passed!

Shoes for Kids

We are partnering again this summer with the Kiwanis “Shoes for Kids” project. The purpose of “Shoes for Kids” is to provide new tennis shoes to any student in Charlotte County which needs them to begin the new school year, or throughout the academic year. Approximately 75% of the shoes are delivered to the Elementary Schools. You can drop off your donations of new shoes to the collection box located in Lenox Hall.  The collection will run through July 24th.

Cuba Progress

Tom Little

While we were in Cuba discussing with District Superintendent Yamel pastor training, he recognized Pastor Ron from our Guaro sister church for teaching Seminary for the last four years. District Seminary is a requirement for any new minister for two years before they go to a formal seminary in Havana for the last two years. He said that there was no food for the whole Saturday of the Seminary and that student pastors often had to come the day before and go home the day after without eating. The cost of providing food for the next year for seminary is $600. The Bargain Boutique came up with the funds and Pastor Brightly from the Fort Ogden Community Church will take the funds to Cuba next week.

In preparation for our trip, we cushioned some electronic equipment with "costumes." When we unpacked, Maribel, Pastor Ron's wife, told us that they had been praying for dancing costumes for their teenage girls to wear as they danced in the services. We did not know why these costumes were given to us, but God does. It brought great joy to our Cuban friends in a country where there are real problems.

The response to our 2-minute video about our sister church in Guaro was substantial. If you missed church last week or if you want to see it again or have a friend watch it, you can view it here:

Appalachian Strings

Cathy Smith

The APPALACHIAN STRINGS, under the direction of Cathy Smith, casual fiddler, meets in Room 13 on our church campus every Tuesday from 9:30-11:00 am. Come join us!

We welcome all acoustic instruments like the dulcimer, ukulele, guitar, violin, and many more. We are a very casual, not professional, group of beginners, experienced, and once-in-a-while players that just love to play music! We have music to start, so dust off your instruments and join us! We have several that don’t read music and play by ear. If that is you, don’t hesitate to come. Many songs are very familiar.

If you have any questions you can contact me at cmsmith8@msn.com. No email? Call me at 607-427-3511.

Church Library Notes

We are noticing that our MEN shelf is pretty lean. Currently, we have only five books. This might be something to consider if donating a book.

If you have read a current or classic book you think might be a good title for our church library,

please consider dropping off a book donation. Place any donations in the book return basket

and we will add it to our collection if it fits our material selection policy. Thank you for helping to

build our library.

Recent donations include:

Max Lucado. "In the Grip of Grace" Bible study DVD and study guidebook

Max Lucado "Made for this Moment" Bible Study DVD and study guidebook

Joe Dallas "The Gay Gospel?: How Pro-Gay Advocates Misread the Bible"

Happy Summer Reading. Come visit your church library!

A Word from Worship

Greetings New Life Church family --

The summer heat is upon us in full sunshine. The campus seems quiet following a week of Vacation Bible School. Now Tim's Youth group is heading out for their Mission trip. Please lift them in extra prayers for this wonderful ministry.

Last week I talked a little about hope witnessing a campus filled with children. Someone mentioned my frequent topic of hope, which made me think even more about it. I know that I'm not alone when it comes to life challenges and demands. I do recall that before I developed a close relationship with God, I used to feel weighed down over problems, big or small. When I read in scripture I learned where hope comes from.

Psalm 62:5-6

"Oh, I must find rest in God only, because my hope comes from Him! Only God is my rock and my salvation- my stronghold! - I will not be shaken."  While I still have demands and challenges, I now know I can turn them over to God. He gives me a clear mind and courage to take steps to resolve whatever circumstance I'm facing. We don't know what our future will bring but because of our Lord's faithful love, our hope is kept alive. We only need to follow Him and see our hope turn into joy as we share this incredible gift with others.

Psalm 94:19

"When I am filled with cares, Your comfort brings me joy."  God shows us how to do our part to work through our struggles and wraps His comfort around us with His power and strength.  Tomorrow's worries are turned into joy today.

Come and visit our prayer group on Thursdays at noon in the sanctuary to find out more!

Please pray for Today Matters and plan to attend on Saturday June 17th at 4pm in the Life Center!

I'm praying for you!
